Re: Atlanta 2009 - Who's staying where?

Team 233 will be at the downtown Day's Inn.

Re: 2009 Florida Regional

We wish to thank Swamp for picking us. We were very fortunate to "ride the coat tails" of 179 and 1649 to the victory. This was a different position than we usually have on an alliance, but hey, it...

Re: Team Pink Can't be Pink

If we and MOE end up in the same division in Atlanta, we'll have to be sure to sit next to each other, rather than one above the other in the stands. The same applies with Swamp and a few other...

Re: Choosing Drivers

That is an interesting comment. I am one who disagrees with some people on my team who think being good at games makes you good at robot driving. It sounds like you confirm my thoughts. It would...

Re: Team Pink Can't be Pink

It seems to me that if the camera is being used to look at vision targets, there is no reason to have the lower edge of the camera's field of view pointed "down" from horizontal, and if the camera is...

Re: Fisher price for the drivetrain?

I pretty much agree with what everyone has said. If you don't gear them too high, they should do fine on this low traction surface. I'd gear for not more than 10-12 FPS or so based on the no-load...

Re: suggested gear ratios

With the very low traction we'll have, there is no reason to have low gearing for low speed acceleration. Even with much higher gearing than we normally use on carpet, we will have the power to spin...

Re: Team Update #1

I'd like to see a specific statement in Q and A or a team update that "suck down" is specifically illegal before we completely abandon the idea, but based on Bill's statement, I suspect that...

Re: Team Update #1

I've about decided that it will be illegal, because if used effectively, it would lift the thin, slick stuff from the floor. I'll be following this pretty closely, though.

Re: Team Update #1

Thank's very much for clueing me in. We can now apply full effort to other things, like picking up and shooting balls, rather than looking for the ideal leaf blower/shop vac/ whatever, and coming up...

Re: suggested gear ratios

Bot weight is only a factor while accelerating, or while spinning wheels in a pushing match. To calculate speed you would attain after the wheels quit spinning on the slick surface while...

Re: Team Update #1

For now, it looks like the "fan suck down" idea is still legal, if we can make it work. Given that we have these two extra CIM motors that won't be needed for the drive train, I think it is still...

Re: The Game Floor

The way the wheels are arranged and the way the robot weight is distributed on the wheels will have a major effect on how the robot handles and turns, but will not affect the available traction.

Re: Best Way Of Scoring?

Hmmm...

I was thinking the human players would be hugely important in this game, given that the robots will spend the entire match sliding around out of control, making it difficult to drive up to...

Re: stolen from another forum

There is a high probability, though, that the tires would fly apart before the airplane took off, and this could cause very bad consequences.

Re: FRC Top 25- Preseason Ranking

I'm honored that Team 233 is number three on the list, but I'm the first to admit that rankings like this are just for fun. There are teams which are consistently good, but even the best teams have...

Re: 2008 IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)

We knew we had a tough job ahead in our quarterfinals against the #1 alliance, and that was born out as we were defeated handily in spite of 2056 and 16's problems. Then, number 1's bad luck...

Re: IRI Rule Changes - 2008

Can we get "80 inch" penalties after things come to rest at the end of a match?

Re: 2008 IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)

Our rookie drivers generally get their first "real match" experience at the Florida Regional which is usually a week 2 or week 3 event. That is a much easier "practice event" than IRI. :-)

Re: 2008 IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)

I would expect the "second" Indiana event to be a less serious event where most teams would use new drivers, and which some teams would attend that were not invited to IRI. It would probably be a...

Re: 2008 IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)

Some teams try to do the very best they can by using their regular drive teams, while others give new drivers some experience. The past three years, we have used our drivers from the regular season,...

Re: 2008 IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)

I don't have much of an opinion on whether or not IRI should have four team alliances, but I do have this opinion. If there are four team alliances, all four teams should be required to play at...

Re: 2008 IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)

While in Atlanta, I heard rumors that the new event might be at the site of the first IRI, Memorial Gym in Kokomo.

Re: Newton 2008

We had a great time in Atlanta. I still have a hard time believing Team 968 had the confidence to pick us after our embarrassingly bad qualifying matches Saturday morning. Before the alliance...
