Re: Newton 2008

Hope you can make to to Florida next year. Newton does, in fact, have a lot of our favorite partners, and opponents that we see at the Florida regional.

Re: Newton 2008

The field of strong teams went very deep in Archi last year for us to have Swamp available as a second pick.

Re: 2008 Championship Division Predictions

If the current list turns out to be the final one, Team 233 will have been in the same division 8 or 9 consecutive years. The odds of that happening are long indeed.

Re: 2008 Motor Specs

The pinion on the motor should be 32 pitch. I think this year's is 19 tooth, but you can verify that by counting the teeth.

Re: 2008 Motor Specs

The "jump" should be a good indicator if the mass of the armatures of both motors is the same, but I don't know for sure that it is. The "wrench on the shaft" test is a sure indicator of a...

Re: Team 121 Teaser Video

Aren't roller grippers great? We really liked ours last year.

Your design is very simple yet effective, and in only three weeks. I'm impressed.

Re: 2008 Motor Specs

I haven't found actual specs on the the Taigene motor, but we have determined that it is REALLY WIMPY compared to a similar-looking one we have, probably from 2005. Our very scientific tests...

Re: Throwning the ball over the over Pass

At the velocities we will be moving the ball, air resistance would be insignificant. The problem with hurling (not hurdling) the ball is coming up with the energy to accelerate the ball to 20-25...

Re: Why don't I ever see robots that steer like a car

This year, for the first time since I've been involved with FIRST (12 years) we discussed car type steering briefly. For this game it might have an advantage in that you would have better precision...

Re: 2008 Kit of Parts discussion

We are allowed to use two additional small CIM's, but it disappointing not be able to use two big CIM's as well. I suspect the game/KOP designers wanted to force us to make compromises between a...

Re: Victor failure question--Can power from motors cause them?

Thanks for the replies. For a start, I think we need to be more careful when drilling and filing. Also, thanks, Al, for mentioning the possibility of condensation. That could happen, since we...

Victor failure question--Can power from motors cause them?

Our 2006 robot which we now use for demos and practice has 4 failed Victors, all of them powering the drive CIM motors. Three of the blown Victors have output in one direction only, and one has no...

Re: 2007 Indiana Robotics Invitational

When I saw that first match between alliances 4 and 5, my thoughts were, "holy crap, we're going to be in for a rough time against the winner of that QF if we make it past alliance 8." I was...

Re: 2007 Indiana Robotics Invitational

Where might we find the webcast? I couldn't find any info on the WildStang site. Sorry if it's there, but I didn't try hard enough to find it.

Re: Who's gonna win 2007 IRI invitational

There seem to be a lot of cases of Championship winning teams being runners-up at IRI. That was the case with 71 in the "balance the teeter totter" year. Also 330 was finalist in the '05 IRI...

Re: Who's gonna win 2007 IRI invitational

I'm not that familiar with this year's 1114 robot, but from what everyone is saying, they must be great. Therefore, a 233, 71, 1114 alliance sounds like something I'd like to be a part of.

Re: 2007 Indiana Robotics Invitational

When you see the teams that were NOT invited, you really get a feeling for how awesome this IRI field actually is. There are teams that were division semi-finalists in the '07 Championships that...

Re: 2007 Indiana Robotics Invitational

I'm devastated that there will be no mentor round. I wanted to play. OK, being more serious, I understand eliminating the mentor round for the sake of better competition, with teams using their...

Re: Who's gonna win 2007 IRI invitational

I'd like to have another try with 71 and 179, which was our alliance at the Championship. I don't know that 179 plans to apply for IRI, though.

Re: 2007 Indiana Robotics Invitational

I'll volunteer to drive your robot, unless you're playing against my team. I'm even willing to compete against other old people for the position.

Re: Championship 2007 - Atlanta - What Needs To Be Improved

I recently started using a Sharpie to label my medels. I wish I had started doing that a long time ago, like 1998 when I got my first FIRST medal, but better late than never, I guess.

Re: Championship 2007 - Atlanta - What Needs To Be Improved

Even if there were room for the fields, adequate officials, etc., having 6 divisions would not work because it would require giving byes into the semis on Einstein. I think most of us feel that this...

Re: Championship 2007 - Atlanta - What Needs To Be Improved

From the standpoint of fun, FIRST's best days are behind us. The overall experience will never be as much fun at a football arena as it was at EPCOT. Also, in some ways, it will not be as much fun...
