Re: 2007 Kit
Imagine that we were allowed to use any lead-acid battery of the "size group" that we are now using and FIRST would simply find the cheapest place to buy two per kit, and include them in the kit. ...

Re: 2007 Motor Specs
Thanks for doing the calculation for me. Yes, we design for well below peak power (motor running maybe 75-80 % of no-load rpm) except for an occasional few seconds of "extreme" operation near its...

Re: 2007 Kit
Sorry about my accusations, Dave. I agree that FIRST is very conscientious in its decisions about robot specs and all other aspects of the competition design. I still feel that Exide, MK-12, Yuasa,...

Re: 2007 Kit
I remember the cordless drill batteries, and yes, what we know have to work with is much better. The drill batteries, as I remember, had 10 sub-C nicad cells each and probably had a capacity of not...

Re: 2007 Kit
This whole battery thing has always been to create business for FIRST battery suppliers. These batteries are interchangable when used to start the engines in motorcycles, or whatever their normal...

Re: 2007 Motor Specs
There is some info on the banebots site, but not the actual power information I'd like. Of course, if I get a little more ambitious, I can calculate a good approximation of what I'm looking for. ...

Re: 2007 Motor Specs
Are we going to get power/rpm/ current curves on these RS-540 motors as we have in the past with new motors in the kit, or do we have to estimate it ourselves?

Re: Loss of a team member
The death of any young adult is exceptionally sad. The person has gone through so much, yet so much more lies ahead. I only met Griffen a time or two, but he was so, well, vibrant, that I remember...

Re: IRI - Comments, Suggestions,
About the only negative I can think of regarding this year's IRI is that our robot lost a drive chain early in the mentor round, spoiling my fun. Oh well.
IRI has become not only the best...

Re: Archimedes!!!
Last year Archimedes appeared "on paper" to be the strongest division, but things just didn't work out for strong alliances to fall into place. This year, the opposite occurred. The winning...

Re: Championship's Atlanta 2006 - The Negative
To me, by far the biggest "negative" about the running of the '06 Championship was that the Woody Flowers award was given at a ceremony with almost nobody there, and which many people didn't even...

Re: Archimedes!!!
Congrats to 296. 217, and 522. We beat you guys once in the Archi finals, but couldn't put it all together. It was great to see you guys win on Einstein.
Also, it was great to see 522 do well. We...

Re: Archimedes!!!
We, Team 233 are one that you missed. We won the Chairman's Award at the UCF regional. Also, interestingly, we have been in Archimedes every year since about 1999. The chances of that happening...

It was great working with you guys and Team 1568 in the elimination rounds. While the Boston regional was great, we probably won't be back next year because we "move around" to different regionals...

Re: 2006 Florida Regional
In case of a tie at the end of autonomous, there is no bonus and the timing/scoring system randomly decides who is on defense first, or so the rules say.

Re: 2006 Florida Regional
There was no semifinal 1-3. The match where the 233/190/244 was scored three balls in the center goal when, depending on who you asked, the alliance actually scored from five to seven balls was...

Re: pic: Governor.jpg
I agree that FIRST should not use the competitions as a showcase for political figures. The Florida regional has been used as such a showcase for Jeb Bush for the three years I've been there. I...
