Re: 2006 Florida Regional
Congratulations to the winning alliance and the runner-up alliance. Special kudos to team 1902. You guys have a very effective, yet simple machine. It's great to see rookie teams start off so...

Re: Winning Robot or Quality Robot?
It takes a lot of things to win competitions and good drivers is one of them, along with strategy, a robot capable of playing the game well, and a robot of high enough "quality" to be reliable for...

Re: Winning Robot or Quality Robot?
I've experienced being on a team with a "winning" robot at the top level (Team 45 at the 1998 Championship) and the team with probably the highest quality robots in FIRST (Team 233). Winning the...

Re: IFI Motor?
The new motor makes its power at lower rpm, so it has to be geared "taller" to do the same thing, negating its torque advantage. Basically, the new motor underperforms the old CIM, but I'd guess it...

Re: 2006 Motor Specs
Something's wrong here. The old CIM's have a no-load rpm of around 5300 rpm and the F/P are 20,000+.

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
The way to get the best time would vary depending upon the characteristics of each vehicle. Of these trucks, the Dakota, with its big displacement, mildly tuned V-8, you would need to modulate the...

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
Is yours a manual transmission? I suspect that would definitely be a "good thing" from a performance standpoint with the Colorado. The test I posted, and all comparison tests I've seen on these...

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
A Car and Driver comparison test of 4wd automatic crew cab trucks with the largest available engines came up with the following results for 0-60 times. Other magazine test have produced similar...

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
The new I-5 has more horsepower than the 4.3, but you need to rev it higher to get the power. I suspect GM's still using a 4-speed autobox and wider gear spacing compared to the 5-speeds in most of...

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
I had a '95 S10 for about a year, and while it convinced me that I'm not a "pickup truck person." It was kind of fun, it its way. It was a short bed 2wd standard cab, and had the 4.3 engine and...

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
I read a lot of car enthusiast magazines, and also Consumer Reports. For some reason, there seems to be a bigger disconnect between magazine writers and owners in the case of Colorado/Canyon than...

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
A Cressida may well have a (non-turbo) Supra engine, which in '86 would have been a <200hp inline six. A current Lexus IS300 has the same engine as the last of the non-turbo Supras.

It would be fun to go to a regional in Brazil. It would be a little complicated, with everyone needing passports and visas, but it would be a great experience for those who have never been out of...

Re: 3 Teams Per Side Too Many?
Before '99, the format was 1v1v1 double elimination until the quarter finals, at which time the tournament became 1v1. With the 1v1v1 format, there were definitely cases where a strong robot, real...

If there is a regional in the UK, would it be in the London area? If so, we should be able to get reasonably cheap flights from Orlando. There are some one-stop flights on Air Canada to Heathrow...

Thanks Andy. We should know by the 16th. if we'll be able to attend as a team. I'll be available to help out if the Pink Team does not compete.

Re: 2005 IRI!
I'd like to repeat Wayne's question. When does registration begin, and is there a team list? I just checked indianafirst.org and the site appears to have been dormant for some time.
