Re: Robot in 3 Days 2017

I will echo these sentiments. The GreenHorns' robot had a number of good concepts going on, but if you copied it verbatim, you would do poorly. I spoke with many teams at champs that were inspired by...

Re: Is the international branching of FRC, a good thing?

I would love to live in a world that celebrates STEM as much as we celebrate athletics, which is what FIRST helps to do in every country it spreads to.

I completely understand your perspective in...

Re: I want to be an FTA

Can confirm, this is Bison Robotics' group picture at the DECC last year. I'm the tall ginger in the back :D

We had 30 volunteers last year and if I do my job well enough, we'll have over 50 this...

Re: I want to be an FTA

The first step I would take is to contact your local Volunteer Coordinator. Let them know of your interest and they can tell you how to proceed.

Re: Robot in 3 Days 2017

This was also attempted in 2015 (albeit on a far smaller scale). 'Snow Problem (from the University of Minnesota) and The GreenHorns (from NDSU) met at 4607's high school to do a demonstration of...

Re: Robot in 3 Days 2017

The GreenHorns have actually done this the past two years. We've worked with 4607 to bring our Ri3D robot to a pre-rookie team. The pre-rookie team works with 4607 to build bumpers for the robot...

Re: Robot in 3 Days 2017

I'm so pumped for Ri3D this year! It'll be my third year participating, and it's by far the most fun thing I've done in college. The past two years I've been the captain of The GreenHorns and this...

Re: Launching FIRST Help Now

That looks like an incredible collection of teams! Can't wait to see how this helps to boost the level of competition in FRC. Who specifically will be answering questions, and what kind of questions...

Re: pic: FRC 2869 - 2016 Offseason bot

By far my favorite match of champs. Probably the most vivid FRC moment for me (I was watching as an inspector from the side of the field). You guys were awesome to compete against, hopefully we get a...

Re: Senior Design Projects

Very cool design! Bison Robotics is actually competing in the NASA Robotics Mining Competition already. I would agree that it's a great next-level competition from FRC. As per Bison Robotics' policy,...

This is great advice Jon, thanks! I'm certain I can think of something that will benefit more teams!

Thanks for the input as well Nick!

Re: Senior Design Projects

Those are some awesome examples! I'm not 100% sure what area I'd like to focus in. My initial thought was building a swerve drive and putting some difficult design constraints on the project (<5 lb...

Right Angle Gearbox

I'm currently trying to find a right angle gearbox (or a set of bevel gears) that fits a very specific set of requirements:

Can transmit .6 hp
Lightweight (<1lb)
Small profile (3"x3"x3")
Rated...

Re: 4607 Butterslide Drivetrain V2

I guess I wasn't terribly concerned with traction, but maybe I should be? I think it should be fine, but I'll definitely check into it, thanks!

Re: Swerve vs. Butterfly Drivetrain

Can you elaborate on this? Why would a butterfly drive be inherently looked upon as a bad thing? Obviously a swerve drive will be looked upon as a good thing, if the team can drive it well, which...

Re: 4607 Butterslide Drivetrain V2

I believe this calculation is for when the motors are stalled. With a butterfly drive, there's no reason to get into a pushing match in omni mode. Any pushing would be handled with traction wheels...
