Re: [FRC Blog] Kickoff!

My only point of contention is that quite a few schools block TwitchTV. Simulcasting to YouTube and Twitch may have been a better way to go.

At least the game reveal video is on YouTube regardless...

Re: Decommissioning of USFIRST.org archived site

The most worrying part about this whole decommissioning is that they don't seem to know what parts people actually use...

Do they even have a better, more easily accessible equivalent on the new...

Re: Max Age for FRC Participants?

In addition to this, 1257 heavily suggests that alum take a year off before becoming a mentor. That way they get their work-load in order and helping the team doesn't mess them up. I'm on my off...

Re: Steampunk wiring - wiring color

As said by others, it's probably best to not poke the bear. Sleeving would likely be your safest bet.

However, it's an odd thing to note that FRC doesn't always follow standards to the letter. ...

Re: 2012 Einstein Incident Finale 12/12 8:30PM EST on Candidly Speaking

In response to item #2, I'm decently sure that they stepped up the security severely. Based on what I know about cheesy-arena, a nearly-protocol identical FMS, each match 6 unique keys are generated...

Re: FRC Championships Live Stream

It ranged anywhere from several hundred to several thousand depending on the event (being either a subdivision or Einsteins). It is also important to note that for much of it FRC was pinned to the...

Re: 2012 Einstein Incident Finale 12/12 8:30PM EST on Candidly Speaking

The people on camera during Candidly Speaking did briefly go over 1717. Apparently they believed that they were subject to the same issues that the Einstein teams were having, but had less...

Re: Pelican (or other) Case for Flying with Robot

Okay okay, you got me. Some of us build big bots, and some of us build small bots that do a heck of a lot. ;)

Re: Pelican (or other) Case for Flying with Robot

1) I've yet to find a pelican case that would fit a regular FRC bot, much less enable you to take it on an airplane. FTC or VEX perhaps, but not FRC. We simply build bigger bots.

2) I'd consider...

Re: Robot Teams and Gaming

Gaming & FRC have always been intertwined as far as I can tell. However, to try and bring FIRST teams to gaming events would seem to be a good idea for teambuilding, and in general a fun thing to...

Re: Political Issues within Team

I can't offer a solution, that's really up to you. However, I can reflect on the difference in culture as a student versus a mentor.

As a student, you look to the mentors for help, to fill in roles...

Re: STEAM Actually comming to FRC, and im not happy

Building a good robot *is* an art, and some of the stuff people make for FIRST is definitely artsy. But to add art, being the arts, to the aspects that they try to preach, it enables FIRST to be a...

Though technically it was earned and not given, my Mt. Olive medal. For me, it was the moment I fell in love with FIRST. For my team, the moment we won as an alliance captain for the first time...

Clearly there is one conclusion. Hallry IS Frank! It explains EVERYTHING!

In all seriousness though, it's good to hear they're working on it. I trust in FIRST to eventually get things right,...

Re: FIRST website is an embarasment

Disclaimer: THIS IS MY OPINION, so take it with a grain of NaCl.

FIRST as a whole may not have a lot of money being a non-profit (or the majority of their 50mil/yr budget actually going to teams),...

You would be correct. However, he could always just use Firefox and screenshot the dom element of the banner.

Re: [FRC Blog] Regional Registration Issues

I'd be willing to wager their ASP.NET server still uses a MS SQL server on the backend somewhere, and each addition to the API has just been stacked on top of the old one.

Old datasets can be a pain...

Re: [FRC Blog] Regional Registration Issues

Disclaimer: This is all my opinion. Take it with a grain of NaCl.

How and why does an organization with the breadth of FIRST have such a failure like this? The scale of their org, both in terms of...

Re: loading a COO file into Python

The simplest solution is often the easiest one. I'd personally just parse it myself and read line by line with a file reader, parse into an object and add each one into an array.

My 2c.

Re: Team/Org Annual Report Examples?

Many nonprofits that aren't FIRST teams make annual reports on their main projects that year, how well they are doing financially, and whether they hit their "purpose" for existing or not.

FIRST...

Re: Tell Me About Your Pit

Well, first and foremost a pit has to be clean. Without a clean and orderly pit, having one is functionally useless. Every tool has a place, and is kept in it obsessively.

Secondly is the layout. ...
