Re: Mentors Role

On 1678, I love that we have Students and Mentors that Do, Learn, Guide and Teach. Mostly because the kids are teaching me things every day :D

I suggest reading FIRSTs mentor handbook, section 8.3...

Re: [FRC BLOG] This isn't a Robot, Housing, and Throwing Things

Pun intended?

At our Vex IQ tournaments, we remind coaches that they are responsible for their students. This should go without saying for FRC as well, but might be worth making explicit. Is this...

Re: Meeting Schedule

I'll +1 this. Being able to accomplish significant tasks outside of team meetings helps keep in-person meetings efficient and productive. It's a difficult skill to learn but totally worth it!

Re: [FRC Blog] FIRST Championship Housing Registration

Seemed to be worth pointing out :) To be fair, a majority of HoF teams have St. Louis as their home event. I was just surprised that "split" meant 12-6.

Re: [FRC Blog] FIRST Championship Housing Registration

I was inspired to look into pre-qualified teams after reading this post. For those interested, Houston 1/2 Champs has 10 pre-qualified teams registered...

Re: Parts Mangment

I recommend taking your team through 5S methodology. We are in the process of adopting this on 1678, it's a great way to teach student an industry standard AND get more buy-in on continual...

Re: pic: 1678 Offseason Robot Progress

Justin,

I think the kids are working to tidy up the CAD and get it out so people can take a better look at what went into the design.

First, there definitely was a desire to push the boundaries and...

Re: Crown Jewel of your Collection

Definitely the hand written notes I've received from students on the teams I've mentored. Helps remind me why I do what I do.

Re: How do you grow your off-season competition?

40 teams in one day seems like a lot to ask. That's just speaking from intuition, but some other people probably have more experience with the concept of a one day event.

CCC did 37 robots in two...

Re: Discussion: Release Team Field Drawings Early

This brings up the unspoken advantage that kickoff host teams have over the rest of us. They show of the field elements at kick off, then get to keep them for the season.

Last year, we had an army...

Re: Best looking robot ever?

Every 254 robot since I started FRC in 2004 has been a work of art. It is almost unreal how they set the bar in both performance AND aesthetics on an annual basis. Truly the best in the...

Re: pic: 1678 Offseason Robot Progress

1. Not at CCC. We will only be competing with one bot at CCC. Our 2016 Adrian practice bot will be driven by team 299. The rest of our students are volunteering.

2. Intake is mostly assembled, not...

Re: [FRC Blog] 2nd District Event Registration Thursday – Important New Information

At least it's not MN :p

CA teams can get a second play in-state if we want one. Getting a third play is harder :)

Re: STEM vs. STEAM

David,

It's very artistic set of media indeed!

In my mind, FIRST supporting the "A" in STEAM would look more like 5-8 million in scholarships for Art Students at Art-focused colleges? Or maybe...

Every program has the opportunity to decide what they intend to promote and accomplish.

Stratis says under 10. Any more bets (thanks Adam!)
