Re: Best Time Savings

I'm a mechanical stuff guy, and the best way I've found to save time is to think simple. Every year I see lots of teams invest a ton of time (we've been guilty too) into ideas or mechanics that were...

Re: Rivnut Tool

We have used riv-nuts also called nut-certs (or nut-serts) on 1058 for years. Really helps with fast repairs in the pit!

Step one is get the right tool. We have one similar to this which works MUCH...

Re: Exhaust in Solenoids

Totally. That's why I mentioned it was not a good idea to use on the official robot, good for a quick test if you don't have any proper on hand. We purchase off-the-shelf rated plugs to use on the...

Re: Exhaust in Solenoids

These manifold blocks can be confusing to look at because the associated A and B ports are not right above each other, they're diagonal. I think they have it plumbed right (That part anyways)

All of...

Re: VersaRunner

Very cool project. Great for rookie training. What does one VersaRunner end up costing?

We might "pirate" this idea for our rookie training next year. We've been using standard VEX parts with our...

Re: What happens to the 2016 game pieces?

FIRST rents/loans the fields for offseason competitions and events. Maybe when the new game next year is released they'll dispose of them but otherwise I imagine they'll be hanging on to them for a...

Re: Security at St. Louis

Thanks for this great reminder. Many teams are coming from rural or suburban areas where the typical sorts of urban crime are non-existent. With St. Louis definitely being above average in petty...

Re: Many thanks to Teams 1058, 1768, and 5563

Any time! You guys did fantastic for a rookie team and should be very proud. Take your lessons learned and apply them next year and you'll be even better. Looking forward to competing with you again...

Re: pic: 1058 PVC Pirates 2016 Robot: Low Expectations

I've been on 1058 for ever and have also used riv-nuts at work a lot. They're sometimes called nut-serts as well. They are super useful but there are some precautions to take. Similar to rivets they...

Re: Macanum Drive Train Problem

It's asking a lot in my opinion to expect that they all output the exact same torques and speeds at a given current. We've run mechanum drives many times. In the past, we've used encoders, gyros and...

Re: How much air can be stored onboard?

Keep in mind that the more capacity you have, the longer it will take to re-charge when depleted. Sometimes it's better to have less storage that reaches full pressure faster.

Re: Pneumatic Ball Puncher

While a 3/4" cylinder with good flow to it moves pretty quick, and we always make strong efforts to work and design safely, I would be amazed if an unmodified COTS piston operated at less than 50%...

Can anyone share how many springs are in each hoop? Every hoop I can remember playing on has had 2 but I wanted to make sure before I ordered springs.

Edit: Never mind. Found it in the drawings....

Re: Drivetrain First Thoughts?

I mean that you lose energy through a vector other than forwards. Those mechanum rollers are rolling even when you're going straight, so you're losing energy and it could be taking you more wheel...

Re: Drivetrain First Thoughts?

I am surprised to see so many people referring to Mechanum drives as being slow. In reality, yes, they are inefficient but that doesn't make them slow, gearing is what ultimately determines speed....

Re: 1058's Field Oriented Drive

From what I understand through testing Brendan and Brian also discovered that through out the 2 minutes and especially going over the bump the robot would lose its calibration. To solve this they...
