Re: pic: Quick-Change Motor Drive Module 1

What advantage does this yield over VersaPlanetaries?

Edit: I see other pics now. Thought the idea here was swap in different motors.

Re: Advice for Rookie You?

Rookie team lead student here.

Bite off a little more. But not everything; keep that design simple.

No mecanums. No fancy drivetrains.

Do actual...

Re: pic: 4143 differential swerve concept

Actually having to go into a pushing match doesn't sound fun with this.
Plus your module has increased MOI; not great from a controls standpoint. (I've wondered how big of a deal MOI is on swerves...

Re: What types of metal do you use for your robot in general?

Re: Custom Gearbox Without Automated Machining?

Bridgeport? Want to also do other bearing sizes? Get a cheap boring head. You'll be able to make A+ holes of any size.

Re: FEA on Gearbox Plates

Point 3 may cancel out in best-case loading but it does not in worst-case loading. (think: one wheel off the ground) (Actually, it doesn't truly cancel out in best-case loading because a moment is...

Re: Gates belt theroy questions

Pretension. Make a tighter belt. Prevent belt from flying off?
Most FRC teams can't even manufacture to the tolerance of 0.001" anyways...

Re: STEM vs. STEAM

Compartmentalizing is dumb. Why not go back to SET? Why not stick with STEM? or go to STEAM? SHTEAM as mentioned above? Economics is important, too, guys! SHTEEAM!

I see no line and therefore refuse...

Rigorous, scientific pocketing?

Was just wondering if anyone is aware of any papers or docs on good pocketing practices that are based on either testing or FEA. "Oh that looks good" or "add more webs" aren't exactly based in any...

Re: pic: Its twins - prototype drives

I know it's prototype but how thick are those side rails, and those are 1/2" bolts? How's the frame work here? Anything to try and stiffen things up in sideways flexure?

Re: paper: 4 CIM versus 6 CIM theoretical calculations

1. Mechanical power output is not everything. You need to have useful power; proper gearing. However, yes, having more mechanical power output won't hurt.

2. How do you magically draw a hard limit...
