Re: NewBie transitioning from FLL: Vex or FTC

If I may suggest.... don't concern yourself too much with the robots.

Meet the people involved and check out the calibre of events in your area. How many times will you be able to compete? Do you...

Re: Is the international branching of FRC, a good thing?

I don't think that inviting other nations to play hockey has hurt Canada.

Although it would be nice to get the Stanley Cup back for a year or two. :-)

Re: The Blue Alliance Blog: FRC Designs + The Blue Alliance

So many great resources, and awesome community building. I've only watched FRC grow for 14 years... those who were around at the beginning must be amazed at how far it has come!

Re: Use of Earpieces during Competition

The driver could, presumably, wear a headset with a stabilized camera focused on a phone or tablet of a team member in the stands. The tablet could display an image of the sound waves it is picking...

Re: pic: 3 wheel omni drive concept

Not wanting to detract from the main point of the thread, because I think the idea is pretty cool and I'd love to see a machine like this play the game on year, but designing with wood actually gives...

Re: Stop Build Time

Thank you! I missed that thread and when I searched for "stop build time" there didn't seem to be much discussion. I'll check that thread out.

Stop Build Time

I'm kind of surprised that I've seen little reference to this post on Frank's blog, concerning a shift from stop build DAY (at midnight, local time) to a stop build TIME (at midnight, New Hampshire...

Re: Discussion: Release Team Field Drawings Early

BRILLIANT! Yes! This would be AWESOME!

It could be released in December, and would be WAY more entertaining than a game hint as people try to figure out the different ways that pieces could be...

Re: Discussion: Release Team Field Drawings Early

I'm certainly not opposed to the idea of releasing the game element designs early, but the practical limitation of backing up against Christmas holidays is an issue.

As mentioned earlier, a bit more...

Re: Team Growth in B.C.

I'm sure each of the new teams will develop their own "signature" style over the next few years. It took us a few years to find, embrace and establish our reputation for having fun with plywood.

But...

Re: Team Growth in B.C.

The PNW District event in Mount Vernon is close enough to Vancouver to count as an excuse to visit this year... in fact, depending on where a future BC regional is hosted, the Mount Vernon district...

Re: Team Growth in B.C.

:) Thanks for the kind words... I've missed having a team for several years now, too. Well, to be perfectly honest, there have been some things that I haven't missed... and I have enjoyed...

Re: Team Growth in B.C.

No government funding, but thankfully there is a major player in the BC tech industry who has stepped up to support FRC. The five teams you see are just the beginning of something very exciting....

Re: pic: Things you couldn't do again if you tried

It was 2007... second match of the tournament in Portland. Our chance to show off our awesome autonomous in front of a row of judges and a packed stadium.

We'd spent the practice day replacing the...

Re: Are Steampunk Goggles Safe?

Steampunk goggles are perfectly safe for well over 50% of the floor space of an event.

Pits and playing field, perhaps not... but everywhere else, enjoy dressing up....

This is an amazingly generous offer. My wife is a Canadian/American registered Patent Agent, so I know the value of what you have offered here.

She won't even write a free patent for me unless I...

Re: Ontario Moving to District Model in 2017

As a fellow Canadian who believes strongly that schools should be free of undue corporate influence (a feeling held by people of many nations, I'm sure) I have to say that the corporate sponsors I...

Re: Ontario Moving to District Model in 2017

That is a down side of having illogical district boundaries. For the past two years BC teams have had to compete in Calgary, rather than in the PNW district event taking place about one hour's drive...

Re: [FRC Blog] The 2016 Season, by the Numbers 2

Shouldn't the question be "How do we get more magnetic gear tooth sensors onto robots?" :D

A tip of my hat to the team who made the old tech work!

Well, this thread has filled up quickly!

When I got involved with FRC I thought it was about encouraging more young people to explore a future in Science, Technology and Engineering...
