Re: PCH 2017
Being a stickler for accuracy
1) The KSU floor was not removable, it is built in permanent. It isn't a situation of people saying no just to inconvenience teams.
2) A decision was made to...

Re: Automation Direct Solenoid Cables
We use the AVS-52xx units, and have used the AVS-32xx units in the past. Same connector.
There is a screw that holds the connector shell on, just remove it, lace through the wires, and screw them...

Re: STIMS Registration Guide
Thank you for the guide. It was invaluable.
George P. Burdell was able to register in minutes and was approved by his father Edgar Smith.
With your guide, we should be able to get this done at a...

Re: Location of Georgia District Events
The reason for the KSU 'no' has to do with building scheduling, not a desire to host the event. KSU would extremely love to host but there are extreme demands on buildings, and academic requirements...

Re: The STEM Pipeline is Broken
In a nutshell
Nationally there are 16 defined career clusters (http://www.bls.gov/careeroutlook/2015/article/career-clusters.htm), that have a set of pathways within each cluster. Upon these...

Re: The STEM Pipeline is Broken
Do you have any California university candidates ?
It seems like maybe Cal Poly might be a good fit ? I think they are doing 4-year engineering + a year or so more for the teacher credentials...

Re: The STEM Pipeline is Broken
It is less than explicitly explained, but if you look on page 31 of the report you will see 'Industry' as a component of the teacher development pipeline process.
The candidate will spend quality...

Re: SkillsUSA vs. FIRST
I'm a big fan of competition and choice.
It makes me insane when I hear a school administrator say that you cannot do X because we already do Y. And too often it is from an administrator that...

Re: #FIRSTLikeAGirl
There is an important sub-thread here. Most people, and rightly so, object to a pro-(fill in the blank) system of equality. They just simply want everyone to be treated equally, and given equal...

I really like the videos. And how the format works. We have a pile of video we shot years ago and I can think of clips that might work in this format. We never really figured out how to...

Re: Water Jet Reccommendations
Personally I never talk costs of anything without also talking about benefits at the same time.
Having said that, we (KSU) purchased an OMAX 1515L and it is a great machine and the support from OMAX...

It is a slight bit over $ 2,000 but we got this a year ago and it works well for many operations.

Re: Waterjet vs. Manual Build Process?
There are merits to making parts by hand and to CNC techniques.
I think for our team, the approach we will stick with is to have team members spend time in the off-season learning how to hand make...

Re: To advertise or not, that is the question
For a couple of years we had our trailer 'branded' and right now it is not. For some reason I tend to prefer 'unbranded' as it draws less attentions.
On the other hand,,, I remember a branded team...

Re: Engineering School Building
I would use an estimate of $150 per sq. Ft. In the Southeast U.S. plus FFE (furnishings fixtures and equipment) plus land.
If we could build the 10,000 sq. ft. facility I would budget 2.5M minimum....
