Re: Easy Bumper Switching?

We use a similar system with grenade pins, but with c-channel. This past year we also used "hook and loop fastener" where the bumpers ended (creating a gap) to prevent them from being bent.

Re: Practice Robot?

We've built a full practice robot every year since 2007. Some years had more students than others, but for the 2016 season, we pulled it with 9 students and just about that many mentors. It's...

Re: CIM Like motors for non-FRC use

The larger CIM motor is part number FP801-005 and was commonly referred to as the "minibike" motor. It was legal in 2006 and 2007.

Preformance Sheet:...

Re: Button I'm planning on giving out, thoughts?

With enough modification, it would be "legal".
The only issue is that it would require completely recreating the logo in such a way that there is a very clear difference between the original and...

Re: 3D Printed Parts on an FRC Robot?

It looks like it may be a combination of a lower layer height, high quality filament, and possibly the way the picture is taken. (you could also have the layers start on the inside of the roller to...

Re: Toughbox Mini

The default unit in most slicers is mm. Exporting in inches is more likely to create a scaling issue.

Edit: Just checked, the scale on the .stl is correct.

Re: Swerve vs. Butterfly Drivetrain

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding something, but we had an 8 wheel tank this past season. The last time we did anything other than tank drive was in 2009 with our single module "swerve". (closer...

Re: Crown Jewel of your Collection

This year's championship alliance captain hat. Everybody on our team got a medal for both the division and Einstein win, but I like the utility of a hat much more.

Re: 3D printer: Favorite Filament

You are absolutely correct that there are some brands that have significantly increased strength and durability. Protopasta, 3DXTech, and recently, Colorfabb comes to mind. However, these...

Re: 3D printer: Favorite Filament

At this point, filament is filament (for the most part).
A $25 roll of PLA will act almost exactly like another $25 roll of PLA (the same can be said ABS and others). Several filament brands can be...

Re: Why insist team 47 around anymore?

I think you're a bit confused.
2009 was 47's last year. The merged with 65 and became 51 (Wings of Fire) starting in the 2010 season.

That thread just contains the information pertaining to why the...

They do have a bulk educational license option, but you only really need one license. (which can be used on 2 computers simultaneously)

It's amazing to see the difference between other...

Re: pneumatic catapults

We didn't have any issues throughout the season, but I could see that becoming an issue depending on how you decide mount everything.
We're usually pretty careful about metal shavings.

Re: pneumatic catapults

Make sure to remove the fittings from the cylinder on the venting side to allow for maximum airflow out of the cylinder.

We used surgical tubing (cut in half to further reduce its stregnth) to...

Re: Acquiring a 3D Printer?

But how long did it take to print, how much post processing was required, and how much did the resin cost? 1 liter of resin costs over $150.
In the long term, you also have to factor in the cost of...

Re: Acquiring a 3D Printer?

A SLA printer probably isn't the best option for robotics applications (in our "robots"). FDM/FFF is the way to go 99.9% of the time (SLS being the .1%) if you intend to create functional parts in a...

He mentioned it on the Printrbot twitter in August and invited...

Re: pic: 24 Years of Game Pieces

It should be noted that 1997 was also a tube.
1997 and 2007 are probably the most similar games in terms of scoring objects and field elements. (tubes on a spinning rack)
The main differences were...

Re: Best 3rd pick this season

120, hands down.
I was amazed by how long they went unpicked during alliance selections. They didn't have the best seeding, but our scouting data put them far ahead of most of the division.

I...
