Re: Championship Conferences - Who Goes?

FIRST competitions create a microcosm of the business world. I'm sure if you held a conference about how to develop a brand for a team, or how to market a teams image, etc. it would be greatly...

Re: Storage/Tote Cart

Winnovation uses ~3 foot tall tool chests on wheels with a work surface on top. It accomplishes pretty much the same thing this idea does, but its on wheels. For the sake of whoever has to move this...

Re: Are Steampunk Goggles Safe?

Simple solution.

Wear your Steampunk goggles like a headband while in the pits, and use regular safety glasses.

Best of both worlds.

Re: The Great Move to Electronic Scouting [Poll]

Most electronic scouting program releases are just software. If you have the whole shabang, I think a lot of teams could benefit from that.

Re: One Day Scouting

The last time I ran a one day shift the quals got cut short by 3 hours! (To be fair, we finished packing up at 8, i cant imagine how late it wouldve run with the original plan)

Instead of making a...

Re: Team 1625's Rank Predictor

Thank you! SumIf is great for sorting data by team number in my experience.

We did most of our decision making out of tableau, and that's where we have pages to directly compare teams. You can...

Re: Team 1625's Rank Predictor

Sorry, I haven't quite kept up on notifications.

FlamingSpork- Trunc. stands for truncated. It's there so teams that cross the same defense (low bar especially) more than twice in a match aren't...

1625's 2016 scouting system release

I released an example of my rank predictor spreadsheet earlier in the off season, and I'm coming back here with more of the story. Also, if you're my contact from team 4241 or 5822, I'm so deeply...

Re: (Seemingly) Irrational alliance selection decisions?

Needless to say scouting at champs was a little crazy for us with our <24 hour notice that we were needed there as a backup. We had two people in the stands for every match. Take everything a I say...

Re: Inspirational teams

I'll throw some rookies on here. 5822, 5847, 5934, and 6237. Outstanding group of new teams in the Midwest! Each of these teams show that you can still start a team, and be competitive. Looking...

Team 1625's Rank Predictor

Team 1625 has predicted the future...in the past when we were competing at regionals! Armed with the power of excel we looked at our Friday data and the Saturday match schedule to see where teams...

Re: 2016 IRI Rule Change Suggestions

There's enough space to gain excessive force. A bump is enough to disrupt any shot. What I saw out there was excessive. Look at the match videos from carson field. I don't want any to ever have to...

Re: 2016 IRI Rule Change Suggestions

After seeing the playoffs in our division(Carson), we need the high speed impact rule from 2014 back. It was carnage.

Re: Championship Community Predictions

As far as Carver division is concerned any team worth their salt is going to pick 2481. Their robot is near perfection. You can't block their shot, you can only try to keep balls away from them. If...

Re: 2016 IRI Rule Change Suggestions

These may have been said before, but I'll toss em out there anyway. I'm not saying put them all in, they're just possible changes.

Re: Things to bring to an event

It looks like you're only competing at one event, so no reason to order spares unless you qualify. If a wheel breaks just try to borrow one from another team, they may have spares.

Re: Things to bring to an event

We have two long tool chests with a workbench surface on top, a road case for extra storage with a drill press bandsaw and sanding station on top, a robot cart with tool storage built in and of...

Re: What types of metal do you use for your robot in general?

Agree to disagree here. Aluminum is lighter and we use more of it. :)

We have had quite a bit of sucess with welded aluminum extrusions. We build robustly, and even in the toughest years for robot...

Re: 2016 Central Illinois Regional

I'd like to take an opportunity to thank our alliance partners, 3528 Up Next and 4212 Techno Ferrets.

3528, you guys blew away even our highest expectations. Your team carried the brunt of both...

Re: The Chokehold Strategy of 2016?

So you're suggesting there are drivers skilled enough to pin a robot in a corner for ~15 seconds and they wouldn't initiate a pin during that 15 seconds else the would be the ones required to...

Re: Scream For Sally

So you're saying that there's a difficult element in the game, and you want us to do everything in our power to remove it so it's easier for teams that didn't take it into consideration?

No thanks...

Re: Scouting: looking for an excel sheet

I know that I've always had to create a new system every year. You're right, you cant just re-use, but that's part of the challenge. We cant re-use robots, we cant re-use code, we can only carry our...

Re: First seed alliance captain: Low Bar or not?

The low bar is the easiest obstacle if you fit, and most teams fit. Low bar capable or not #1 robots likely won't use the low bar because they're hitting the defenses their partners cant.

This is...

Re: Real week 1 update for you.

The comment about defense crossings was intriguing.

Are those 8 attempts crosses according to the manual or did you do something like driving back and forth over it 4 times without completely...
