Re: [FTC]: NorCal Advancement

As an exercise, I made up a google sheet that compares the existing NorCal advancement criteria with the criteria in my proposal. You can see it using this link...

Re: [FTC]: Scoring points for the opposing alliance

My opinion is that there's nothing wrong with scoring for the opponents when you're way ahead to maximize everybody's ranking points. All 4 teams in the match benefit from this.

However, I think you...

Re: [FTC]: NorCal Advancement

One other strange thing about the NorCal strategy: you have a better chance of advancing if you're at a tournament without a host, which motivates you to pick tournaments without hosts.

In Virginia,...

Sorry about that. I updated the link in the original post to a shareable one. But here it is again (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1M-88gK0lekAatJJFyXnJRkKlaij9Zf0RSrGFo9MIQXk). Let me know if...

Re: [FTC]: NorCal Advancement

IMHO, the Winning Alliance Captain should always, always get a guaranteed spot to advance to the next level at every tournament. Otherwise, robot performance is completely irrelevant!

As an aside,...

Re: FIRST Song Parody Contest Playlist and moving foward

As stated above, song parodies are hard. The music and singing might be the hardest part.

I wonder if a different type of parody could be easier and more enjoyable. For example, the Holy Grail...

Re: [FTC]: Closed Loop Scoring illegal!

As a point of fact, many many teams posed the question that they answered. I know mine did and I know several others did too. The GDC was responding to the overwhelming confusion about what was and...

Re: [FTC]: Using Vacuum instead of Pneumatics?

A few years ago, the "How It's Made" system was discussed by a few teams. As a result of these discussions, coffee grounds and things like it were added to the "Illegal Parts" list of materials (as...

Re: [FTC]: Homebrew Power Distribution Module

We have a JV rookie team that did this for prototyping and scrimmaging this year and it worked great. They connected the USB cable direct from the phone to the Legacy module. They used an Anderson...

Re: Overview and Analysis of FIRST Stats

On a tangentially related note: I came across "Regularized Adjusted Plus/Minus" stats for NBA basketball players today. They are essentially exactly the stats we're using in FIRST! See for example,...

Re: Overview and Analysis of FIRST Stats

Well, essentially I agree with you for real tournaments. Both the average of the opponent's scores and DPR will only be a meaningful measure of defensive performance if averaged over MANY matches,...

There are widely known issues with the MRI electronics that can cause these symptoms.

Re: [FTC]: 2nd AZ Qualifier of the Res-q season OVERVIEW. Chandler AZ, November 21st

3D printers have to be calibrated to get the correct lengths for longer parts. I'm guessing that, since no one else has complained about this problem for this part, your printer may be slightly out...
