Go to Post My suggestion is to first focus in on your drive base. Get it running, and drive it into the ground and see what breaks. Then fix it. Rinse wash and repeat. - Andy A. [more]

Re: compact reversed cim gearbox and output shaft question

the pulleys are staggered. The middle one is 15mm while the ones on the cim are 9mm so they dont overlap. I may be misunderstanding your comment?

whoops. my ball shifter weighed over 2lbs :D...

reversed cim gearbox / output shaft question

high speed: 18.77 ft/s
low speed: 8.46 ft/s
weight: 3.4lbs without cims, 9lbs with cims.

tl;dr: How can I extend the output shaft of the ball shifter without having to knock out the roll pin or use...

Re: Dart actuator gets jammed

Is the motor driving the dart spinning, yet the dart isn't moving? or is it stalled.

my best guess is either:

1. You forgot a bearing on the inside of the dart, and when the dart bottoms out, the...

Re: Mentor Roles

I see a lot of people here talking about a student built vs mentor built robot. And it is understandable why many people have strong opinions on the matter on both sides. I for one believe that FIRST...

Re: pic: 4576 RNR CAD Angle 2

there is a cutout in the front. looks like 1in. Along with the tilt given from the ramp, looks like it would be easy to go over the rock wall.

I cant really judge the height of the robot because of...

Re: Tapping into 3D Printed Parts

bit of a correction: I heated up the bolt only, and with a hot bolt, threaded the plastic. Pointing a heat-gun at the piece would have probably killed it :p

The threads are clean, and I would think...

I couldn't help but remember this thread the moment I saw the post http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89768 :D

In all seriousness, i really like the design. very simple yet...

Re: Solidworks Workgroup PDM workflow and tips

Last year, my team tried out Workgroup PDM for a few weeks. However, I personally found it very convoluted and difficult to work with, which resulted in slower work flow overall.

I would recommend...

Re: pic: Two-speed low profile gearbox + PTO

hmmm. This is gonna be kind of hard to describe without a cad model in front of both of us, but there is a spacer right in front of the 60t(?) dog gear. You can flip the placement of the larger and...

Re: pic: Two-speed low profile gearbox + PTO

Perhaps you can add small gear on the output shaft. sdp-si has a ton of gears for your choosing. Broach a small one and you can fit it on the output hex shaft where you have a spacer. you might have...

Re: 110ft/s (75mph) robot design

loosing so much efficiency for a shifting mechanism doesn't seem like a worthy trade off, but i will look into it.

hmmm. getting rid of 4 cims would shave off a little over 11lbs. so if i can...

Re: 110ft/s (75mph) robot design

I know this configuration isn't optimal, but I wanted to design something that my team has the resources to make. Something like, for example, a round aerodynamic shroud that covers the entire robot,...

Re: 110ft/s (75mph) robot design

6 CIMs at 40 amps draws 240 amps. AndyMark's data sheet for the 120 amp breaker states that at 200% of the rated current (lets say a bit more because of other electronics) it can last a bit less then...

110ft/s (75mph) robot design

Awhile back, I saw team 868's Totebot, a robot in a tote that drives at 50mph. I was inspired by their video to design a robot that can go as fast as possible using only FRC legal parts.

I have...
