Re: Looking for Team #44!! Does it still exist?

When working on starting 3928 I did manage to hunt down one guy at Iowa State who was a mentor for Team #44, and also one of the professors research labs had some old FRC parts laying around, but no...

Re: pic: 3 wheel omni drive concept

Yeah, 148's bot in 2014 was the first instance of it, a JVN special (the VEXiq prototype was adorable).

Re: pic: 3 wheel omni drive concept

I think you'll find the directional performance of that strafe wheel will be quite aggressive in one direction, and lackluster in the other.

Having the pivot off to one side results in the wheel...

Re: pic: GBX-150, CIM-mounted swerve

A colson would work better as the bond to the polyolefin core is very strong, but it would still wear out faster than you'd think.

Replacing the ends of motors has been on my "i'd like to do...

Re: pic: GBX-150, CIM-mounted swerve

I think last time I measured it was ~0.090" thick, it's not going anywhere.

Re: pic: GBX-150, CIM-mounted swerve

I like the concept, as someone who has utilized the large steel sleeve of the CIM structurally before.

I will warn against taking any loads with the face of the CIM, this is a rather thin wall cast...

Re: Scariest Robot

3310 in 2015, most robots just have a few dangerous places to stand (in front of catapults for example), but the Arm on that thing had a huge death radius to where I just didn't stand near it :o...

Re: Using a 775pro in Dusty Conditions

If I were you I would venture into brushless land, an Inrunner is already sealed, or an outrunner doesn't really care that much, but could be sealed without too much work.

Re: pic: Experimental VP drive gearbox

We (1296) did end up trying a swap to 9:1 from the 7:1 is was running at, but decided to stay faster.

We did TIG weld the pins into the carrier, and ream out the planet gears for needle...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve Pivot Top View

The CIM sleeve is just black gloss powdercoat, there are rubber seals between the sleeve and the endcaps.

Re: What COTS parts would you like to see?

It does depend on the shaft, the 1/2" hex shaft does not have this as it is machined from solid, same for the 1/2" round. But the 3/8" and 8mm shafts are two piece units.

Re: Compressed air for rapidly cooling motors?

Between.

Nothing hooked up to the robots pneumatics system.
It's mainly about air flow, and the robot system isn't the greatest for that anyway.

The testing I did on some of this helped lead to...

Re: Compressed air for rapidly cooling motors?

Yup, you can even get 10-32 to 1/4" tube push to connect fittings to make it easier to hook up air.

Feel free to come by 1296 at champs, we'll also be running it.

Re: Compressed air for rapidly cooling motors?

Nope, a CIM motor has two openings in it that are entirely legal to blow air into without modifications.

Since we are out of the 20T aluminum gears for this season, these gears are compatible but will require you to get them hex broached.

As Paul stated, we are currently competing with the tiny regulator from automation direct, we used it because it is very small, light, and cheap.

My brother Kellen used these last year as well with...

Re: Versaplanetary Integrated Encoder Magnet Distance

Ty,

There were a variety of things that made this the case. The largest constraint was we wanted to make the encoder exactly the same as a gear stage in size and thickness, which led to a very tight...
