For the Woodie Flowers Fan in All of Us...
TL;DR: Want Woodie Stuff, Go HERE (http://www.tj2.org/tj2-estate-sale).
With the exception of Dean, Woodie Flowers is easily and deservedly the most influential person in FIRST's history. What is...

I have obviously offended you (and all of Team 900?). That wasn't my intent. Sorry for that.

Re: paper: Stop the Stop Build
To me the idea of helping another team is completely okay. Help away. But suppose that Team A helped Team B before an upcoming competition but Team B could only use the improvements IF they were on...

Re: paper: Stop the Stop Build
I am not seeing the disconnect that others see. I believe that I can be FOR removing the stop build rules and still be AGAINST having the top teams cheesecake the soul out of a lower tier team.
I...

Re: paper: Stop the Stop Build
This is my main argument for just ripping the band-aide off rather than going with the 8 hour per week window: The rules around withholding are already a hot mess, I can see how this 8 hour per week...

Re: paper: Stop the Stop Build
Jim,
Really amazing work. Thanks.
I love that you specifically called out that "6 weeks is a myth." It has been a myth for 2 decades.
I also love the data showing that basically a lot of teams are...

Newton Match 100
Quals 100 on Newton. Amazing!
5885 1519 254 vs. 118 122 4122
1519, 254 and 118 are all battling to stay in the hunt for one of the top seeds.
5885 was dead for the match.
1519 and 254 should...

Re: Hot match alert?
Which matches?
That is a good question.
I am thinking this could be a kind of a mix match criteria for rules folks that can be customized for a particular person.
Maybe you have a rules with...

Hot match alert?
Like most of you, I am bummed that I can be in St. Louis over the next 3 days.
But, since I didn't leave town, I also have 10,000 other things I need to get done between now and Einstein.
Does...

Let's Do Some Science Shall We...
TL;DR: I observe a thing I don't understand. I think about it. I come up with possible explanations. I find one that seems particularly plausible (at least to me). If that theory is correct, then I...

Re: Comparison of DIV MAX OPRs
Interesting. 3 methods provide the same result (Ether's two methods and my method #1* 2.5% is 1 in 40)
I swear, I didn't look at Ether's answers before I did my simulation.

Re: Comparison of DIV MAX OPRs
As I suggested above, I looked into this very question.
TL;DR: I estimate that as a competitor you would expect to be in a division as stacked as Newton (or more stacked) once every 250-500 years....

Re: Comparison of DIV MAX OPRs
Jim,
I like the chart but I am always suspicious of averages over medians/percentiles. Can you redo the data with each "point" becoming a bar between two points (50%tile & 90%tile say).
Can you...

I love this idea. Can someone point me to an OPR/MAX OPR spreadsheet (or website, but I'd prefer not to have to scrape all that data)? I just don't have the time right now to write my own. I just...

Re: Lopsided Divisions
I've done some analysis that I have shared in this thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1578136#post1578136).
Long story short. Newton is stacked. Some others, not so much...

Re: Comparison of DIV MAX OPRs
Actually, things don't change that much. That is one of the great things about using percentiles rather than averages. With averages a few high numbers can really skew the result but for populations...
