Re: [wiki]: Renew domain name?
Sorry about that guys. It should be working within 24 hours or so. Someone had been taking care of the domain name for me for the past few years so I had not been making sure it was renewed. I...

Re: Poof Ball Dynamics
We have been testing the same mechanism and discovered much the same effect (more highly compressed balls shoot significantly faster). I believe this is due to slippage when the normal force is not...

That's probably 7 amps at 120V or about 840 watts. You almost had me thinking this was a feasible idea...

Conveyor belts
We are looking to build a conveyor belt to transfer balls. I have found a variety of conveyor belting on McMaster-Carr, but I'm having a hard time finding appropriate rollers for the belting. Are...

Re: Poll: CIM vs. Bike Motor?
A set screw is probably the simplest method (use two or three set screws if you want). I don't have numbers on it, but I think you can get sufficient torque transfer with it. But, if you insist,...

Re: 4WD, is it legal?
In general, you can do whatever you like in the construction of FIRST robots. The main rules, the ones that anyone designing the robot will need to know by heart, are:
weight limits
size...

Re: pic: TechTigers shooting prototype
I'm also very interested in seeing the video and it appears broken to me, too.
By my estimates, at 500 rpm, you should be shooting at around 1/2 (17fps or so) of the max velocity allowed. Is that...

Re: Minimum Clearance?
One issue that Eric and I didn't consider at first but is certainly important is that you need to look at the clearance between not just in the side view, but also in the front view of the robot. ...

What was the reasoning behind moving to a fixed width? Seems like it won't do much good for anyone and annoy some.

Re: which is better aluminum or steel????
In general, in material science, you want to maximize one property while minimizing another; in the case of the chassis of a FIRST robot, the two important properties are weight and stiffness....

Re: how thin is too thin?
Yes, Sanddrag, you can certainly clamp a gear on the CIM shaft safely. We, and many other teams have done it. I think clamping is one of the most under used ways (in FIRST) to attach stuff to shafts....

I imagine the sensor that provides feedback in a servo is a potentiometer. What exactly don't you like about them? The idea of using a servo as a sensor is certainly going to be a lot more work. ...

Re: pic: Reworked AndyMark Gearbox
That is really cool. I am surprised A&M didn't sell a servo shift version. Was it difficult to adapt one? Also, how much weight did you save with the modifications and removing the cylinder?

I am still unsure of what you are trying to record, so this may not apply. The "best" way to do it would be to record each source independently then mix them later in an audio editing program (I...
