Re: [FRC Blog] Pool Noodles for the 2017 Season

Re: Winch ratchet and paw design

In 2014 for our choo-choo we used layered sheet metal to create our ratchet and pawl. Basically you just make several from thinner laser cut sheet metal and bolt the lot together. Not as strong as a...

Re: Modeling Ball Shooters

Hard to understand your exact setup, but if you only have one wheel and a backplate you must account for spin.

The part of the ball touching the wheel can only have a linear speed equal to that of...

Re: 2016 Championship Harassment Survey

This could only work if it were in any way enforcable. If you tagged someone who did not consent, how would you be punished or for that matter get caught. I think this solution would actually make a...

Re: Are there any alternatives to an electric actuator?

It depends on the scale. I think it will be difficult to find an out-of-the box servo solution for a man sized sword swinging arm.

Electric linear actuators might work however if you include a...

Re: Old Man Notices A Thing: Lots of Robot Names

I have spoken to several alumni of other teams who refer to their teams robots by name in conversation. While the teams themselves are well known, stating the robot's name without a year for context...

It was also a first post, from a likely anonymous account. Why they chose 254 we don't know, but it doesn't illegitimize their concern.

I do not understand how anyone could see that post as...

Re: pic: 1296 Mittens

It is actually traveling left to right. The arm raises straight up and catapults in the direction of travel. ie: the intake is in the back of the robot, but it shoots forwards.

When crossing the...

Re: pic: 2207

Looks like the tilt of each 'pod' is controlled by window motors. Otherwise it is a tank drive. Not sure how it would be run best from a controls standpoint.

Re: pic: 3D Printed Parts Contest

I feel like this challenge is supposed to be 3d printed parts specifically for an FRC team, not just the coolest part made on a 3d printer*.

Re: The Chokehold Strategy of 2016?

You've gotten G21 flipped around. If the RED robot is in the BLUE passageway, they may not contact a BLUE robot.

If you are in your own passageway, you cannot draw a foul in that way

Re: FRC Spyder

You are right, if a team averages more penalties (In fouls or playing defense on their own teammates) then a negative rating can occur.

Re: FRC Spyder

Negative or massive OPRs (and other ratings) are just the result of not enough data. In a statistic model with up to 60 variables (teams), It takes many data points (matches) before a useful solution...
