Re: Team 1114: Simbot Solidworks Series

Now that the 2016 FIRST Championships is over I thought it would be a good time to ask about the Simbot Solidworks Series that we created last year.

I was hoping to get some feedback on them. So,...

Re: pic: Input Stage Wear

This is not the first time I've seen this this year. I have helped many teams this year who were having "mysterious" wear on their CIM output gears and the driven gear from the CIM motors. It is...

Re: 1114 and 2056 Release Videos?

A few of the reasons we don't, have already been mentioned but I'll explain a bit more.

It's not really the competitive advantage, is more time, resources and knowledge.

We spend all of our time...

Re: CAD programs for Macs - Suggestions, anyone?

I will second OnShape. It was made by the person who originally created Solidworks. It's free and runs on browsers.

I have not used it yet, but since it was made by the same guy who started...

Re: CIM Motor Direct Drive or Supporting Axle

As a rule: never ever side load a motor. So you should not directly drive the wheel from the CIM Motor. You should add a set of gears/belts and pulleys/sprocket and chain to each wheel

Why to not...

Re: Team 1114 - Simbot SideSwipe

Woohoo, now this is how you ask Questions! Here are some answers:

I was not a part of the design team for the latches or indexer but I can tell you how I would have done the calculations. First I...

Re: Team 1114 - Simbot SideSwipe

The thing was, this intake wasn't unconventional to a lot of us. We were expecting a lot more teams with this exact same style of intake in the season. I was surprised to see a lot less teams(or...

Re: Team 1114 - Simbot SideSwipe

We used many different wheels while prototyping. With the Banebot wheels we were able to intake almost any tote, in any orientation. We even had it picking up a tote that was almost completely...

Re: Pneumatic cylinders Solidworks lessons

That's why I break the references when I'm done. It kind of ruins the whole "in-context" part but it makes Designing a lot quicker.

Re: Pneumatic cylinders Solidworks lessons

Adam, your video talked about what other ways to do something like this. The only thing I normally do different is I make things into Blocks, so the dimensions aren't in the way, and the relations...

Re: Show off Your Machining! 2014

The water jet has very very tiny Sand particles in the water. If you go into a place with a water jet you will see pallets of sand. It uses a very high pressure (approx 60 000psi) to push the sand...

This looks like your students had fun with this challenge, good on them. It really seems like a cool project.

I really just wanted to show another way I was used to getting angles on a mill. When I...

Re: pic: 3 cim shifting gearbox from 2471

True, that should also just be water-jet cut. Bolt holes can be terrible.

Re: pic: 3 cim shifting gearbox from 2471

Did you cut smaller holes on the waterjet and then drill them with the proper drill size on the mill? or did you leave that section blank and then drill the holes?

If you water jet the holes to a...

Re: Metric vs SAE hardware

Many of the parts you can buy from FRC Vendors, such as VEXPro and Andymark, sell most if not all of the parts in Standard units (inch). I would recommend going with this unit of measure.

Though it...

Re: Adding friction material to timing belts

Just so nobody gets the wrong idea about the paint on urathane I wouldn't mind commenting on this. Yes we did use this for our intake rollers in 2014 (also 2012 and 2011), and it served us well....
