Re: Teams breaking the game

In my nine years of youth robotics I've never seen a robot break a game like 2W did Gateway. I know most of you are FIRSTies and don't pay much attention to VRC, but go watch that video that Jason...

Re: VEX in the Southeast

You can also find events on this handy map. (http://www.robotevents.com/map) There aren't many displayed yet, but it will really fill up in September and October.

Re: Reference Material- BSA Robotics Merit Badge Book

I had the privilege of being on the team that created and wrote the merit badge requirements and book. Almost everything in this thread is accurate. The merit badge was designed to be...

Re: Why Losers Lose?

I've heard this dozens of times over the last seven years -- there simply isn't enough STEM stuff to be done on a single robot to engage 20-30 students or more, so teams have to come up with non-STEM...

Re: [FTC]: Edison Division replaying a ton of matches today.

Phil, I'm sure you're aware that the real purpose of the chains hanging from buses and pickups is to attach the Faraday cage to the earth via the Tesla Effect, which prevents the Psi Wave Detectors...

Re: 2011 Lesson Learned: The Negative

I don't believe I have ever tried to sit in the stands at an FRC event when I haven't had some parent or kid tell me I had to move -- stretching back to the 2005 Portland tournament when I nearly got...

Re: Definition of the word Vex

In 2005 there was a very limited pilot program using VEX components playing a small version of the 2004 FRC game.

In 2006 there were a few teams playing "Half-Pipe Hustle" as FIRST VEX Challenge...

Re: Losing on Purpose to Gain Advantage

We had this discussion with our teams and the conclusion was that if I ever had proof that one of our teams threw a qualifying match, either they could quit or I would.

Re: Losing on Purpose to Gain Advantage

You've created a straw-man argument based on assuming an unlikely edge case, and then used that to scold quite a number of intelligent, thoughtful contributors. Since the OP did not include the...

Re: Losing on Purpose to Gain Advantage

You can either choose to do the right thing or the wrong thing, and it's pretty clear that "anything you can get away with is OK" is the wrong thing.

How would you feel if YOUR alliance partner was...

Re: Friday Night Entertainment - will.i.am with special guests

First -- I don't know. Second -- I seriously doubt it. The booking fee for that band would be WAY higher if it were a broadcast event.
