Re: Versatile gearboxes for pre-season stocking up?

The VP is awesome. Extremely versatile. It allows you to relatively quickly adjust gear ratio and motor(s). So if you guesstimate 50:1 but later decide that faster/slower/more power is needed then...

Re: FRC Blog - Team Banners, History Patches, and Achievement Streamers for 2017

Taking away the patches makes sense. Getting them at the event required someone to take the time to add it to the standard. We sewed them on so we wouldn't worry about them falling off and getting...

Re: Registration 2017

I just registered. It was painfully slow, but we got into Midwest.

Re: School-sponsored Coach Salary

A few years back, before I joined the team, 2338 worked with our district/union to set up stipends for coaches for the FRC team. We have plans for the near future to work to add ones for FTC coaches...

Re: Registration 2017

Does it happen every year? Past 2 years I've done it haven't had any issue at all. I do recall in the past there being similar issues, but I didn't think recently there had been.

Re: Video Review Needs to Happen Now

Can you elaborate on what happened? What was the call on the field/what was the challenge?

Re: How are teams mounting drivetrain encoders on WCD?

2014 we used Ball shifters and used the encoder setup that comes with it.
2015 we used the AM CIMple Box and 3D printed an encoder gearbox that mounted to the 1x2 frame. It had a 3D printed gear on...

Re: 6 wheel drop center drive train

For reference, we used 3/16" drop with the AM pneumatic wheels. Zero issues with turning. Our setup was not standard tho. We had 8WD but performed more like a wide 6WD; our front wheels were...

Re: How many days do your programmers get with a fully built robot before stop build

Do teams have any dedicated "programming only" days? For instance, you say that no matter what the Wednesday before Bag programming gets the robot for the night. No matter the state of the robot,...

Re: Lets do it again...

2008, we completely overlooked actually shooting the ball over the truss. Bot ended up doing well but that could have made a big difference. Also, not integrating the Gen 1 AM shifter into the...

Re: Do Non-School Teams Have An Advantage?

It all depends on each individual situation. Neither is better than the other.

We have zero delay with ordering parts, I front everything robot on my credit card and the school writes me a check at...

Re: FIRST world problems

Correct, which is why I've never wanted to have an application or look at grades or existing skills (lord knows I had none when I was a student). Interested tho in how other teams assemble their...

Re: FIRST world problems

How did this work for the 2nd year? Or has this only been a 1 time thing so far?

I'm very interested in this. We had a very similar experience after the 2014 season. 2013 we won our first...

Re: Most underrated/undervalued tools

Clecos for anything sheet metal. Great for "tacking" versatube and gussets together before riveting. Saves tons of time by ensuring things will go together prior to assembly.

Re: Team 254 Presents: Dropshot Technical Binder 2016

For the hood, it looks like you milled out a slot/track. Did you just use track rollers from McMaster or something different? How did you insure that the motion was smooth and didn't bind/be too...

Re: Team 254 Presents: Dropshot Technical Binder 2016

I'm curious about this as well. Not just turrets, but any gear tooth profile like you used for the hood. I know y'all have a laser but would a waterjet be able to do 20DP gears?

Re: FIRST Graduation Cords

We were told the same. We gave our seniors FIRST cords anyway so that they could take pictures with them. Some wore them to graduation anyway, French honor society is the same colors so no one...

Re: pic: FIRST FRC Participation

Is the 2010-2011 bump in rookies due to the JCPenny grant? I can't remember when that began/ended. Know there were a ton of teams that took advantage of that.

Edit: That's when Districts began in...

Re: Limiting female drive team members issue

We nearly ran into an issue with this the morning of us leaving for Arkansas. School called to confirm that we did not have a female chaperon going (we did not for day 1) and were concerned that we...
