Re: Playing well with others while scaling the tower

I can certainly remember 1114, 2056, and 1547 all hanging multiple times during the elims at GTR on their way to the Champion title.

Re: Playing well with others while scaling the tower

I know this because I personally spoke to several members of their team about their design decisions. A conversation I started because it struck me as odd at the time that they would choose to do...

Re: Playing well with others while scaling the tower

This was precisely the reason that 1114 initially shocked everyone in 2013 by not having a floor pickup in favour of having a 30pt climber.

They knew that:

a) They were Pre-Qualified as an Einstein...

Re: Mentor Roles

I agree with many of the above posters, but also have this to say:

In 12 years of FRC competition, I don't recall ever seeing a team that simply could not compete at all.

Saw plenty of teams whose...

Re: Can a spybot start with a boulder?

Seems to me that the easiest multi-ball auto would be to start as the spybot, with a BOULDER, score that BOULDER in the TOWER, and then CROSS the OUTER WORKS via the LOW BAR, pick up a BOULDER...

Re: Value of defense

Don't get me wrong, I agree it is rarely the optimum usage of an alliance to do everything yourself and carry your alliance partners, and those top teams recognize that too.

I'm merely stating...

Re: Value of defense

As someone who comes from the region that 1114, 2056, 1241, 610, and many more call home:

I'm really used to planning for being up against the strongest possible teams. The number one thing those...

Re: Problems driving straight.

I'd be inclined to agree. I could also see a possibility for a performance difference between hard floors like tile or concrete and softer ones like carpet. I would think the locked roller side...

Re: Stress testing a Rhino

I can't speak to the Rhino units in particular, but the belts on them look awfully similar to some belts made by Brecoflex that my old team used for several years. They were expensive (read:...

Re: [FRC Blog] Two Championship Survey Results and Path Forward

Karthik has reconciled the unevenly weighted scale by simply clumping the most opposed, and most favoured 3 choices together and leaving the rest as neutral. Counting 7 as favour would make his...

Re: paper: 2015 IRI Rule Changes

It does, however, mean that we won't get to see 1114's harpoons in a competition match...

Re: Preparing for the Town Hall Meeting on the New Championships Format

I still think the single biggest problem with the championshplit is that the lions share of the inspiration of the championship comes from being able to schmooze with the best teams in the world.

Re: 1114's HARPOONS

My guess is that the Curie alliance knows that they're likely OK coming out of this match due to the lead they have on 1671/1678/118's average, but also know that the finals is against the same...

Re: 1114's HARPOONS

We may be much more likely to see it now with 1114's SideSwipe-mounted canburglar all twisted up after that last match.

Re: Einstein Field

ouch. 1114 dragging what's left of their canburglar. that'll slow them down.

Re: Einstein Field

Yep, or in this case, falling stacks and the brutality of the QF's in an avg score bracket with only 2 matches.

Winning CMP is less about prowess and more about being able to be consistent and take...

Re: Einstein Field

Certainly not. I was there in Atlanta watching in 2010 when 177 was in the middle of that streak.

And once again demonstrating just how hard it is to win CMP? 2056. 22 regional wins. Never lost...

Re: Einstein Field

I wasn't trying to be snippy, I guess it did kind of come off that way though. I'm equally aware 177's no slouch when it comes to being a regular sight on Einstein either.

Re: Einstein Field

5 years? Try 11.

They've won a minimum of 1 regional/year since 2004. 3 regionals each in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2 in 2012, 2007, as well as trips to Einstein in 2008, 2010, 2012,...

I posted in another thread a few minutes ago:

Those HOF/Otherwise super-elite teams are as inspiring as they are because of a very small number of very dedicated mentors.

If a change makes those...
