Re: pic: FRC KOP Chassis Butterfly Upgrade V1

Man I was feeling good about my ability to do math in my head... turns out you have to start with the right numbers.

Re: pic: FRC KOP Chassis Butterfly Upgrade V1

Each one, with some wiggle room, should lift about 45 lbs at 110ish psi. Side loads shouldn't be an issue do to the lack of hard mounting on the rod. Using the lifting eyes should just allow it to...

Re: drilling larger holes in aluminum

Our set has a small flat on the top away from the cutting edge and we just use a set of channel locks or a wrench to break them loose. Very much important to wait for them to cool down before doing...

Re: drilling larger holes in aluminum

Annular cutters are fabulous when a precise hole is needed. Our set has seen a lot of action since we bought it a few years back. Makes a great press fit bearing hole if done just right.

Re: school politics

We have a similar rule where we are, but if kids show up to an event with parental consent we are good to go. Permission slips and waivers are your friend in this case.

Also, if a kid shows up...

Re: Looking for 2 LUNACY wheels

Mike,

Have you tried Fruitport or NC Gears direct? They are the only local teams that were around back then. Otherwise you might have luck with the group of teams from the Holland/Zeeland area.

Re: RoboRio in KOP?

If history repeats itself, and I'm confident it will, you won't get another one. The rookie kit comes with the yellow tote of extra goodies that veterans do without. The control system is typically...

Re: Alternatives for Signal and Pneumatic Connectors?

How often are you reusing your ptc fittings? I used to work for Parker in their Brass Products Division. The teeth that grab onto the tubing is stamped from an almost nonexistently thin piece of...

Re: pic: Average Winch Innards

Quite a few low bar bots had weight to spare and had space at a premium. We did something similar with our ball collector for aerial assist, made some good confusion faces happen when people tried...

Re: Legality of purchasing Planetary Gearboxes from alternative sources.

Before you start assuming that I hold something against AM for their business practices, slow down and think a bit. All I did was raise a question. If it is the same, and like the OP I can plan...

Re: Legality of purchasing Planetary Gearboxes from alternative sources.

Where does Andymark get their PG sets from? They don't make them in house otherwise they wouldn't have had to wait for a shipment to come in when they were out of stock. A 25 day lead sounds awful...

Re: pic: VorTX logo

The three green parts don't all land in the same spot if you rotate them around the triangle in the middle. The upper left one looks like it sits in a different spot when you extend lines to the...

Re: Acquiring a 3D Printer?

It's a Form1+. I messed with it for about 6 months testing everyday. The big problem was that a failure destroyed the print trays so continuing with it actually cost more than our Stratasys Uprint...

Re: Acquiring a 3D Printer?

It's a super cool technology, but when every job fails and they tell you that the solution is to buy the new model I'll look elsewhere. We did make a really cool RSL holder that was clear and put an...

Re: Acquiring a 3D Printer?

I have a formlabs printer in my classroom. It makes a lovely paperweight. Out of 60 prints, I had 3 successful jobs. There were so many occlusions and failures I couldn't believe it. Their...

Re: Possible FIRST-approved compressor for the upcoming season

VIAIR 250C-IG (https://www.amazon.com/VIAIR-250C-Compressor-Intercooler-Sealed/dp/B00BGHMOO6)

It's heavy and pricey, but does what you want.

Re: Student Project for an Autonomous Bed Mover

Take a look at University of Michigan's hospital system in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They have, or had, robotic delivery systems for food service, supply deliveries, and more. Last time I saw them was...

Re: Q. Best sheet metal design?

We've used galvanized in the past but only sparingly. You need fantastic ventilation if you plan to weld it, the edges tend to be incredibly sharp, it doesn't paint well without scrubbing with...

Re: Vinyl Cutter

Unless you have the ability to print on it, vinyl is really a terrible choice for labeling. That's a lot of weeding to pick the letters and number for batteries and basic labels. I'd much rather...

Re: Vinyl Cutter

I have a GCC Expert 24 in my classroom and have liked it. My only complaint is that it uses an optical sensor to track media and that doesn't seem to be "student proof" But it cuts beautifully when...

We use a keyboard emulator called PoKeys. https://www.poscope.com/products/pokeys-devices/

Re: Is Welding Worth It?

Why do you grind your welds down? Are you looking for a smooth appearance or for a strong joint? In my opinion, nothing looks better than a smooth stack of weld material laid down just right...

Re: What states fund robotics

Michigan doesn't fully fund, it only partially funds robotics. That funding is starting to run out too with promised funds being reduced as teams advanced to the State Champs this year.

Also,...
