Re: Compact 3CIM Single Speed Gearbox Review
Gearing our 4cim 2 mini cim drive at 10.04:1 this year with 8" wheels made us suffer bad brownout problems. Our batteries would barely get us through a match. We bumped our gear ratio up to about...

Re: IRI Alliances
Thank you for this great compliment. It hurts to know that some people really are getting into this topic. I would like to point out that in every match except for maybe one or two, our "two ball...

Re: pic: ABS-122, shifter-in-tube chassis
Having un-powered wheels in your drive train is generally not a good idea. They create friction and make it really, really hard to turn. Replacing them with a caster or some low friction nylon for...

Re: pic: ABS-122, shifter-in-tube chassis
We had #35 chain direct driving the first wheels. Given the strength of 35 chain, and the fact that we put the chains in line, as well as calculated the direct c-c we had no issue other than chain...

Re: pic: ABS-122, shifter-in-tube chassis
So this year our robot had about 60% of our weight on the front wheels. Direct driving the center wheel or any wheel might have helped. We ran a single gear reduction 12-66t and then a 12-22 #35...

Re: pic: ABS-122, shifter-in-tube chassis
We never had issues with it slipping or jumping or breaking or ever coming off. We just find it very hard to write fast, accurate and repeatable autonomous modes with so much slack in our chain. It...

Re: IRI 2016 Predictions
We will likely have a 2 ball block ready for IRI. It is easy for us to do with our robot needing no modification to implement dropping the ball, then picking up the one on the center line.

Re: pic: ABS-122, shifter-in-tube chassis
It doesn't look like you have any form of chain tensioners on this setup. Although you can do without them, I would still really recommend putting them on even in the case of using large tooth count...

Re: Demonstration event robot comm
Typically when we do demos with lots of wifi traffic we either use 5ghz or a different channel on 2.4ghz. Additionally I've seen other teams bridge their robot router to another router plugged into...

Re: Need some recommendations for tooling
Also, I forgot to mention. A CNC router although seems like it will be more useful than a lathe, our team could absolutely not live without a lathe. There are so many things that we do on the lathe...

Re: Sheet Metal vs Tube Drivetrain
I really don't understand why so many people are chiming in about chain being such a problem. Chain is a very, very powerful tool if used correctly. It is even more powerful if you DO NOT use master...

Re: Sheet Metal vs Tube Drivetrain
I don't think if their team were to use tube it would need to be bent. With a water jet sponsor they could rivet and gusset 2x1 and 1x1 to build a very competitive robot.
Additionally, my team used...

Re: Hex Kiwi Drive
Only thing I would be worried about is that it probably will act a bit weird when trying to go forward since the side wheels would not be at the 30 degree angle like the other 4. As long is the math...
