Re: VCU Regional??
I was recently at VT and saw some of the amazing RoMeLa lab robots and would recommend that everyone stop by the demo.
VCU should definitely be a great regional this year, especially with all the...

How would you put 2 fisher price or 2 globe motors into a single gearbox? We are trying to get the fisher price into a very small gearbox (planetary) and need the motors to face the same direction. ...

Pinning a Mechanism
How much power will it take to remove a pin, if 200 pounds of force acts in the perpendicular direction? Would a pneumatic piston work?

Re: Team 540 Launch Teaser
"Spring like" - that's pretty close, at least the same concept. We're not quite ready to reveal exactly how it works, but we will as the end of the season approaches.

This was taken around 9PM so it was dark outside, and the video was taken based off of illumination from car headlights.
When we added "brightness" and contrast to the video (the ball was showing up...

Re: Air Cannon
What kind of ABS? The kind at our local Lowe's and Home Depot don't have pressure ratings? Is it just the generic one they have, or do we need a special type? Thanks!

Re: Air Cannon
WOW! I'm glad I asked this question. I definitely didn't know parts of this were so dangerous. We are changing to ABS or a non-PVC tank and will do extensive safety tests.
Ours doesn't launch...

Re: Air Cannon
The air cannon we built is pretty simple. We already had a sprinkler valve (which limits flow to 110PSI) and used PVC rated at 280PSI. I'll bring up changing to ABS. I uploaded a picture here...

We won't use Fisher Price gearboxes and motors in the actual drivetrain. But for a first prototype they work pretty well. For prototyping, they already come with a gearbox, which is ideal because...

Thanks for the response. We won't try pushing anything, unless we decide to demonstrate what happens if it stalls.
We realized the fisher prices are really nice for quick and simple prototyping. ...
