Re: Need Help Teaching New Members

1. How many people on the team have any experience to be able to assist you with teaching the new members?

2. My team has taken small groups of 4 people and had an experienced member teach them...

Re: Women in STEM Survey: Help our team get data!

If you are going to include Mentors as part of this survey, you need to make sure the questions on page 2 of the form allow for those of us that were never a part of the program as a student.

Re: Looking for new team

Please volunteer with a rookie team. Here are a few reasons why:

1. They (typically) do not know what is going on with the deadlines, ordering, etc. The teachers/mentors will be grateful to have...

Re: [FIRST EMAIL] Stop Build Day Survey

1. If you're primary teaching tool is at that time, then you're not utilizing the rest of your year well.

2. If you need to "win" because of sponsor donations, you need to reset in the sponsor's...

Re: [FIRST EMAIL] Stop Build Day Survey

I can see the argument going both ways.

No: The districts can be seen as allowing for the iterative process because you test your robot, then make changes. All engineering requires an iterative...

Re: [FIRST EMAIL] Stop Build Day Survey

I wrote something very similar to this in my survey.

The question FRC needs to ask itself is: Does it want to emphasize the engineering, including the trade-offs that are required (everything has a...

Re: Pockets on Women's Pants

I have never been fashion conscious and have recently run into significant issues as a result of this issue. Due to being heat sensitive, I had to trade my jeans at work for light-weight slacks that...

Re: Anyone want to mail us FRC posters?

If you have a Costco membership, they'll make posters that are rather inexpensive.

Re: A Request For More Transparency in Moderating

It is possible that the original poster requested that it be removed after reconsidering.

Re: RCA Cables and Closed Captions?

It sounds like the cable box is not sending the captions to the tv, but rather that the tv was the device that was doing the actual captioning. I think I'm out of luck unless I decide to spend more...

Re: RCA Cables and Closed Captions?

It's a DCT1700/US.

I also have a blu-ray player that I can connect via HDMI, if that will help the situation at all.

RCA Cables and Closed Captions?

Does anyone know if RCA cables can transmit closed captions? I have an SD cable box (not HD) that is now connected via RCA cables instead of the coax cable; and, I'm not able to figure out how to...

Re: Boeing Sponsorship and Grants ?

If you don't have a Boeing employee (or retiree) that mentors your team, contact your area FIRST representative. They may know of other Boeing Funds that get used for teams.

Re: Problem: Pneumatics Not Firing

How big are your cylinders? How big are your air tanks, and how many do you have? What is the load on your cylinder when you try to fire it?

My team learned the hard way this season that a 2"...

Thomas Perkins of KPCB has Passed Away

I just saw in the NY Times obit section that Thomas Perkins of Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers has passed away. Often, we say the names of people in relation to an award without giving much...

Follow Up Poll: Did FIRST change your idea of what to major in?

In a follow up to this thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148564) I posted, I thought I would ask if being a part of FIRST changed what you wanted to major in.

Re: What's the gender demographic of your team leadership?

I'd like to propose one other hypothesis as to why so many females end up in leadership positions on teams:

Females tend to see the bigger picture rather than focus on the details.

One of my...

Re: Hardest personal lesson learned?

I see this as quite the opposite. When the student surpasses the mentor who has put in so much time and effort, it means the mentor has achieved the goals of this program. I hope in time you can...
