Corrected scale; it means nothing at this point.

Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint

No, look at the axis labels. That's the first thought to pop into your head, but the scales are off.

Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint

The ratio between the first two numbers is about 4.64 and the ratio of the second to third number is about 7.90. Each consecutive number is smaller by a bigger factor.

The target this year will get...

Re: [Q] I need help with passing an array of pointers to an object

First of all, you can make
for (int x = 0; x < 10; x++) {
buttons[x] = false;
}

into this:

buttons = {0}; //This fills the array with 0's, which is equivalent to false.

Just a hint: take full use of classes and inheritances.

Re: The Stereotyping of Successful Teams

This thread reminds me of a quote I saw on Reddit: "The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel."...

Re: Caffeine

I generally go for coffee, straight with no sugar or cream. Occasionally Monster or Rockstar when I'm in that type of mood.

It uses the exact same principle that I predict most teams will use.

Re: Climbing Mechanism Ideas

But the rule states that a legal climb is when the robot contacts the pyramid sequentially. The pyramid does not include the airspace, or you will never have a "legal climb". If the air space was...

Re: New Team, which lang?

I would go with Java just because of the fact that AP Computer Science is taught in Java. Chances are, if the school has APCS, there will be kids that know Java. Less likely C++.

Re: PID: what is it exactly?

Is that a legit technical term used in industry? "Bang-bang" controller? It just sounds funny. I think I would have called it a boolean logic controller (Although that has its own implications)

Dealing With FIRST Withdrawal Symptoms?

If you are an alumni, how have you dealt with leaving FIRST?

I know some go out and mentor or volunteer, but that will not be a possibility for me as my school is in the middle of nowhere, in a...

Re: Best board for vision processing (beagle/panda/beaglebone/etc?)

Has anyone looked into using the Odroid X (http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G133999328931)? It's by a South Korean company, so shipping might be expensive. It has...

Re: 2013 Game Hint!

Never gonna give you up came out in 87; FIRST had first game in 91. 4 years apart. 2013 minus 4 is 2009. 2009 is Lunacy. But this year, Mars themed, but close to Lunacy with Tetras because 3 of the...

Re: C++ vs. Java (speed considerations only)

I agree. The overhead creates milliseconds of delay; it's insignificant compared to the sensor delay. But I was answering in terms of pure Java vs C++. I don't want people to think what's relevant to...

Re: Coefficient of Friction Testing

These wheels were 29635T31 from McMasterCarr. The argument was whether or not these would slip; if they did slip, a second motor in the gearbox would be useless. I do not have the results as they...

Re: Coefficient of Friction Testing

Our team did calculate the COF on the wheels as I was having an argument with one of the mentors regarding the number of motors to use. Personally, I just used one wheel for the test.

Re: C++ vs. Java (speed considerations only)

Java has a lot more overhead than C++. For example, the JVM itself needs to use the same registers, caches and RAM that the Java Program would use. Also, a Java Object has at least 8 bytes of...

Re: Gearboxes? Help!

;) That's what I said.

edit: Once it starts wearing down, it's a perceptual process. The ground up gear particles gets between the gears and further grinds them up.

Yes, the ones we used on the...
