Re: NeveRest 60 in FRC

I'm in total agreement.

The point of my post was to alleviate some of the headaches for a team that chooses to use them. The biggest advantage I can see (the integrated encoder) also disappears...

Re: NeveRest 60 in FRC

We've been doing FTC for three years and I think we've seen every possible failure these motors can have. Less common failures I've seen are magic smoke (only once and it was totally our fault), and...

Re: Districts vs. Traditional Debate 8/16 830pm EST

Not in every case. We were invited to Palmetto 2016 on Feb 16 to attend on Feb 24 :(

It's not always in the RPC's control when they can fill from the waitlist -- sometimes a team drops with 9 days...

Re: Official Inter-District Interest

Part of the problem is that very few events have open slots by the time district teams are given "open season" to travel. Between the school district needing a certain amount of time as notice,...

Re: MAR 2017

+Mount Olive moved to week 2
+DCMP moved to week 6 (although this had greater impact with a week 8 CMP)
-DCMP still at Lehigh
-DCMP still at Lehigh
-DCMP still at Lehigh

Re: Landmark Based Outdoor Robot Localization

Hi mreda,

If I understand correctly, you're trying to find your location based off other reference-points with known locations. This is the way GPS technology works. Using the known location of...

Re: Map of Championship Teams

I had no idea that 2590 was the southern-most NJ team registered for WCMP... That blows my mind.

Re: Withholding Allowance

Register a team in a north region and a team in a south region and win both half championships!

Re: Palmetto Regional Week 0.5

Right, but it's much more possible to crack it at the mounting holes.

Re: Palmetto Regional Week 0.5

This would be my guess too. It's the most frequent failure we saw on the wood version.

The difference in build quality between A/C and B/D/low is pretty apparent. Did anybody else see the team bend...

Re: Trouble passing under the low bar

I've found that just googling what you need on the new website gets you there in fewer clicks than navigating it.

Yesterday I googled "us first manual" (successfully)... Whoops!

Re: Andymark rhino drivetrain discussion

Not comparable. Treads coming off a tread drive (ANY tread drive) from base to base interaction is a chassis that cannot withstand the rigors of FRC. Poking holes in pneumatic wheels is damaging and...

Re: 8" Non-Pneumatic Wheels

Agreed!

Would be my choice. Pneumatic will likely be better, but in a pinch, I'd go with Colsons.

Re: The "noodle agreement" is back! Now the defense agreement.

You're right.

I amend that to:
If you are not both trying to maximize YOUR SCORE and minimize OPPONENT SCORE based on influence from a member of an alliance other than your own, you are violating...

Re: The Boulder Agreement

In 2012 you could not get the ranking point without working together. This year your ranking point is independent of your opponent.

Additionally, creating more scoring opportunities for your...

You can also theoretically use the new FIRST website to find it but my saved links for that broke when they changed the URL.

Re: The "noodle agreement" is back! Now the defense agreement.

Because every team at an event can collude to do this with every alliance EXCEPT the best team's alliances to comparatively deflate their ranking.

Obviously this is FIRST so there will be enough...

Re: The "noodle agreement" is back! Now the defense agreement.

Playing to your full potential is an optimization problem.

You want to maximize (YOUR SCORE) - (OPPONENT SCORE).
If the result is positive, you win. If the result is negative, you lose.

If you...

Re: The "noodle agreement" is back! Now the defense agreement.

I think you can pretty safely assume that the hardest obstacle for an alliance is the opposite of what they ask you to select.

Re: The "noodle agreement" is back! Now the defense agreement.

Not selecting the defenses that your scouts tell you are hardest for the opposing alliance is playing below your ability.

Violates T7/T8 for sure.

Re: 2x1x1/16 Belt-In-Tube

Very cool COTS solution!

I'd like to echo this. I've been on teams that ran belt for years with exactly zero failures until we moved to 9mm. I can't imagine doing 9mm again with the 24T...
