Re: roboRio arbitrarily stops connecting to LifeCam, though Windows still can

What happens prior to you connecting the LifeCam? Are you powering up the robot? Are you restarting your code without power cycling?

Re: 30fps Vision Tracking on the RoboRIO without Coprocessor

Can you explain the reason for this? Are the systems designed to be used with monochrome or is it just worked out until that's all that's necessary?

Re: Alternatives for Signal and Pneumatic Connectors?

Looking at your wiring, I'm going to take a guess here. Do you reuse pre-made wiring from year to year? Are you interested in being able to make your own wiring?

Related comment, we use 3x1 PWM...

Re: Alternatives for Signal and Pneumatic Connectors?

We use PWM from Hansen Hobbies. We've never had them come out of the roboRIO but we also secure them to structure nearby. When doing a PWM-PWM connection, we electrical tape the two together. Can...

Re: What brand of pneumatics do you use?

SMC, Festo, Automation Direct, at least one other which Andymark sells. Pretty much it depends on what we need in a given year.

What problems did you have?

Re: What hath we wrought? 2016 Horror Stories

I can confidently say you might have been the first, but you weren't the last to do that this year.

Re: What hath we wrought? 2016 Horror Stories

It's one of three things
1) You need to tighten the bolts down more (use a wrench)
2) You need to crimp your contacts better (use proper tools)
3) The connector housings need to be replaced (this was...

Re: Want easily programmable Autonomous Modes? Introducing Build An Auton! (Closed Be

We program in LabView so...... No. That said, we've been working towards a similar setup with our team library.

A couple comments for the developers.
1) A big difficulty for teams is tuning PIDs. ...

Re: What hath we wrought? 2016 Horror Stories

So Semi-Finals at Rumble in the Roads, there were two new custom defenses to replace the portcullis, a triangle shaped rock wall and a one way ramp. Our driver thought the ramp was the triangle...

Re: Would this Encoder work? and Encoder Recommendations

On drive train, it depends on what you're doing. We use 250PPR and its still overkill. I think 1 pulse corresponds to 1mm of travel but that can change on if you are using the input or output to...

Re: Would this Encoder work? and Encoder Recommendations

Either andymark or direct from US Digital. We placed an order direct a few years ago, we probably will this year as well (discount for bulk ordering). I'm still trying to find an alternative.

Re: Can't Deploy Code

There's a few things that could be here. Check what IP/Network name the project expects the roborio to be at. If you're trying to load by USB, ensure it is set to 172.22.11.2 . Check your...

Re: Gyro vs. Encoders for Driving Straight

Use encoders for distance, use gyro for driving straight. With a properly tuned PID and a good gyro, you'll be off by at most 1/2" over 30 ft. Once we redid our autonomous for champs, we didn't...

What hath we wrought? 2016 Horror Stories

After & During the 2016 season I've come across a number of horror stories of all sorts from the fields.

Teams learned how good their wiring was and how tough a field could be on robots.

Re: Scariest Robot

I don't remember the team, but one robot in 2014 used a car suspension spring for launching the ball by catapult. I was scared to be near it when it was in compression.

Re: pneumatic catapults

To continue on this (sorry, too used to thinking electrical) the other counterpart to this is we are still constrained by the pneumatic size limits which act as an indirect Cv limiter. A fitting and...

Re: pneumatic catapults

Primary constraint is the solenoid flow rate (CV rating). If you use multiple cylinders, you can use multiple solenoids. This gives you a higher effective CV rating.

In 2014 we used a pneumatic catapult. After some experimentation throughout the season here's what we found:

1) The Automation Direct solenoids are the best we've seen. The higher CV rating the...
