Re: Electrical connectors on control system items

Hi all, Just had to throw my 2¢ in on this one.

As someone said, the powerpoles are a gift from God! lol, True, you do have to shell out $40 for a nice crimper, and you do have to train the...

Re: Cutting and stripping battery cables

Hi all,
Just a thought on the wattage of the iron.
We use an iron that is only 35-40 watts, but the tip is MASSIVE, like 1/2" in diameter, with a 5/16" chisel point.
This allows it to hold heat so...

Re: Running Can Jaguars on Arduino *Released

This sounds really neat! Thanks for doing it, I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

Re: Configuring the CAN bus devices.

So, here's my version of that question.

I would like to configure the SRX's before turning them over to the programmers and mounting them in the system. Hence, I would like to program it before...

Re: Team 2220 Blue Twilight's 2013 Recruitment video

Hi Guys,
Nice Video! I like the way you show different aspects of FIRST Robotics.

I'd do a better job of mic'ing yourselves, it sounds kind of hollow.

Don't put text up in front of your...

Re: Aerial Assist Discussion Thread

We weighed our inflated ball this afternoon, and it was 2.75 lbs. Now, my question is, how much variance is there in the weight of the balls?

Could make a big difference in shooting it.

Re: Jaguars

Hi everyone,
Our team, which is in it's 6th year, has used only Jag's for all of our history. We started with them because they were more interesting, and sophisticated. I think the the first year...

Re: CAN and Jaguars, any limits?

Well, this is anecdotal in nature, but after our competition at 10000 Lakes where we removed 3 of the jags from the CAN bus and put them on PWM, the other 8 worked very well.
Our bot drove well, and...

Re: CAN and Jaguars, any limits?

Well, we put 2 bots side by side to get enough Jags around, and tried communicating with them with 9,10,11, and 12 Jags.
Remember, this is going through the cRio, to a black Jag, and then to a mix...

Re: Some great times in Duluth!

That sounds great you guys. I'm going to have to find some time to wander over from 10k lakes and say hi to Kate!
Well, and maybe watch your bot climb to the top. :)

Re: CAN and Jaguars, any limits?

Hi, I'm from the same team as Topgun. The configuration is cRio serial to black TI jag with 107 on it, and from there it chains from jag to jag, some tan with 101, some black TI with 107, and during...

Nice neat job guys. I'm a smige worried the side car is too close for the 6Ga wires to the PD, but hopefully you can make it work.

Re: Climbing Mechanism Ideas

Ok, I don't mean to picky here, but I just realized what might be a problem. Imagine a hook that fits on the bar. Since the hook is touching the top of the bar, and the middle of the bar, this hook...

You know guys, that's really cool! I think it's a great way to use a sensor that usually isn't found on a FIRST robot.
Kudos

Re: Battery required by rule

The main problem with Li batteries is like you say, cost. The other is that only some are safe considering the beating our bots take. I think the good one is a LiFeP. Probably more expensive...

Re: High Power LED's

Hi all,
The best way I can think of is to make a circuit for constant current. They make driver chips for just that purpose. You could also use the LM317 in a constant current mode.
Just google...

Re: 2012 Match Initial Observations

Hi all,
I was at the Simley event in Minnesota.
My off the cuff thoughts are,
1. Too many tall robots, there was lots of tipping, and I didn't see anyone except us even try to cross the bump. ...

Re: AM Fisher Price planetary problem

We had one with the same problem last year on a 775 and the AM unit. It was found to be a bur on one of the shafts the gears fit on. They replaced it and all was good. Great company!

Hi all,
I'd just like to second, third, or was that forth, the nod to the power pole connectors. We've used them all 3 years we've been around and love them.
Always buy a few extra contacts though...

Re: Banebots RS-775 Case Short

Hi all,
I checked our 3 motors last night and found 2 of them to be shorted, if you call 6 ohms shorted.
I set up a smaller battery, and a 40A breaker and proceeded to 'zap' them by putting one wire...

Re: Line Following Sensor Wiring.

Hi there,
Just a note for you, the power for the AB photo sensors that we were given this year may also be powered by the solonoid output module on the cRio. This is so they have a nice constant...

Re: What is resistor value inside tetrix motor?

Hi Al, all,
There is a separate cap in the motor as well, it looks like a small .1uF, that is fine.
I agree it probably is a choke, and yes, it won't be legal, but for testing purposes it will work...

Re: What is resistor value inside tetrix motor?

Hi all,
Thanks for the thoughts on our smoke release. I do usually like to have spare smoke on hand, but in this case it seems to be special smoke that I don't have.

Seriously, we had made a mini...

What is resistor value inside tetrix motor?

We smoked a tetrix motor last weekend when testing a mini bot. An examination of the inside of the motor shows that there is a resistor, or something that looks like a resistor inside the rear cap...
