Re: Eliminating "Start Build Day"
I am all in favor of allowing teams to use parts that were fabricated prior to kickoff.
In a world where you can buy so many FRC-specific COTS parts and assemblies, the current rule just...

Re: [FTC]: Closed Loop Scoring illegal!
I am not entirely surprised, but very frustrated by this significant rule change, and the way it was announced.
If they were going to ban closed loop scoring, I wish they would have done it...

Re: Lesson Learned 2016 - The Positive
I think the GDC struck a very good balance between "one really good robot can carry the alliance" and "all robots need to contribute something for the alliance to succeed".
One good team could...

Re: 4 Team Matches for Championship
It would be cool if they kept normal 3 team alliances during division playoffs and then let the winning alliance pick any team from their division as the "backup" robot for Einstein. That would...

Re: Scaling Club
1918 also joined this club at MSC. The drivers got better at it as the event progressed. The climb in Q182 is my personal favorite.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fIa98Gj7bc

Re: Triple Cyclers or Defense?
Think about the "opportunity cost" of having a dedicated defense robot in your courtyard:
- They aren't scoring any boulders
- They aren't breaching any defenses
- They aren't delivering boulders to...

Re: Ball bouncing out of the high Goal
I wish FIRST had modified the goals to reduce or eliminate bounce-outs early in the season. I think it is a bit late to do it now. Although the definition of a "scored boulder" addresses bounce-outs,...

Re: OPS ranking of Michigan FRC teams
I like the concept of the OPS, since neither FiM (district points) score or OPR paints a complete picture (not that any system does).
Every year before MSC and CMP, I come up with my own rating...

Re: FIM West Michigan
Congratulations to the winning alliance of 3546, 107 and 5610. You each did your role brilliantly and the resulting alliance was greater than the sum of the individual teams.
Your victory ends the...

Re: 20 point auto club
1918 (http://www.thebluealliance.com/match/2016mista_qm34) did a few at Standish in Week 1. Thanks to 5448 for the video.

Re: First In Michigan Week 1.
This game is a blast to play. Brutal at times, but strategically deep and a lot of fun.
Standish-Sterling was a very young field. Kudos to the teams and volunteers who helped get everybody up to...

Re: KISS
It looks to me like 4454 built the right robot for this game - particularly for early in the season. You don't need to score all the points to get a high OPR. You just need to be around when the...

Our robot is low, but our hopes are high! We can't wait to play this game. Looking forward to the Standish-Sterling event this weekend (hitting the road in a few minutes. Woohoo!)

Re: Shooting Percentage for week 1
Yes, I have seen the Update 10 wording. I agree that it clearly answers "Situation B", but is ambiguous on "Situation A". When it comes to the G21 exception to G11 (G11 Blue box item C) the GDC chose...

a) Red...

Re: What will separate the good from the great?
I suspect that OPR will be an even better metric this year than it has been with some others. OPR is based on your alliance scores, not just your own individual performance.
Great robots will do a...
