Re: pic: GBX-150, CIM-mounted swerve

Very cool! And thanks for sharing the native SolidWorks files. I'm very interested in working across teams and iterating on each others designs.

I look forward to seeing video if/when you build &...

Re: "Gamifying" Documentation

Exactly.

For me, the motivation is to have a library of modular robot components we can draw from on the very first day of kickoff. These components (loaders, shooters, kickers, manipulators, etc)...

Using Game-Like Elements to Encourage Documentation

Who wants to test drive our cool new robot?!
"Me! Me! Me!"

Who wants to write a improved control algorithm to help our robot perform better?!
"Me! Me! Me!"

Who wants to document our code, wiring,...

How to Convert SVG files to DXF to machine your logo

One of our sponsors gives us laser-cutting service, so we're cutting our team's logo into some of the parts.

Our art students use GIMP (which supports a slew of image formats including SVG, but not...

Re: 2016 CAD model

Nice! Do you know where your center-of-gravity is and how far you can tip fore/aft before falling over? (or alternatively, how fast you can accelerate/stop without tipping)? Those 13" wheels look...

Re: Announcing findrobotparts.com

Awesome resource - thank you for making it!

Major props for crowd-sourcing resources too. I just added a 2nd source for an encoder (which includes CAD files that AndyMark does not have).

Re: 2016 Field Bird Eye View.

Beware that the flags on the top view are confusing: the CAD, game video, and iso views of the field in the manual show the Red Secret Passage and Red Flag on the same side of the field as each...

Re: Secret Passage

For anyone still following this, the 1st rule update clarified it (caveat - I paraphased parts of it, so look it up yourself to be sure):

Section 3.4.3 General Rules

G11 Blue Box added:

G11 does...

Re: Pneumatic Wheels vs Treads

I've never actually ordered from them before (we still haven't placed our order), but Team 1619 recommended PVC Herringbone and SuperGrip Green (neither of which are on that PDF).

It probably also...

Re: Pneumatic Wheels vs Treads

I asked Brecoflex for a quote earlier this week and they sent this guide. I'm not 100% sure on the pitch but I think their largest pulleys are 150mm diameter. Plus-side: they're estimating 2-day...

Re: Secret Passage

We're plowing ahead assuming the red secret passage is next to the red castle & drivers stations (which makes more sense from a game-play standpoint). I'm thinking that top image represented an...

Re: Secret Passage

Can anyone point to the rule that SPECIFICALLY says your alliance's secret passage is adjacent to YOUR castle?

This one (top) diagram makes it confusing by showing a blue flag next to a red secret...

Re: FRC Field 2016 Download

Thanks for doing this!

For what it's worth, the STEP file imported fine for me in SolidWorks 2015 (which I think is analogous to the student version for 2015/16).

Here's a view from the middle...

Re: Another try at mixing FIRST and MOOCs

Awesome idea! I'm a huge fan of MOOCs and share your frustration with robotics courses that run smack in the middle of build season.

Good luck to your team this year too.

Re: Advice For Agile/Scrum Robot Development

Our typical method is to spend the 1st day of kickoff weekend reading the rules and then brainstorming game Strategy (i.e. what the robot needs to do, not what it looks like). For all brainstorming...

Re: Advice For Agile/Scrum Robot Development

Agile (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agile_software_development) was made for software development, but most of the 12 points translate pretty well for robotics.

The biggest challenge is estimating...

Re: Easy Reversible Bumpers with CAD

I like the bungee idea for robots with full-length bumpers on all 4 sides, and apparently it's not that expensive, either (50ft of 1/4" bungee cord for $17.59)...

Easy Reversible Bumpers with CAD

We use reversible bumpers that change colors without removing the bumpers from the robot - it takes about 10 seconds to flip the fabric up or down and secure it with velcro. It's designed to the...

Re: [FRC Blog] 2016 Safety Animation Award Competition Details

Fortunately you can still access pages on...

Re: Is there a dominant design style?

We used the 2015 KoP frame last year, but adapted it to our own drivetrain (Toughbox Nanos with 6" mechanums).

It's worth mentioning that if you just want the KoP frame, they sell it separately from...

Re: Idea: "CAD-a-thon"

I'd be very interested in doing an online version of this (my team is in NH). Were you thinking of doing it separately for teams that use different CAD packages, though?

We use SolidWorks but I...
