Smile Re: Why Do You FIRST?

I do FIRST because not enough is being done during regular school programs to inspire students who someday will be game changers. In addition, I wanted to give back in some meaningful way to say...

Smile Re: Getting the Totes Right Side Up from the Chute Door

We have a lip extending out from our frame to "catch" the front edge of the tote before the tote hits the floor. We back up slightly and the tote falls upright.:) :)

Smile Re: Flush-mounting rivnuts

You could counterbore with an end mill. There is a style rivet nut that is knurled to "lock" it into the mounting hole, which make them a lot less prone to spin, making it difficult to remove. :)

Re: 1885's prototype...first version

I would suggest adding a weight box to bring it up to competition weight of 150 lbs with bumpers added so they get used to size. Then test with different motor configurations while driver training....

Smile Re: Elevator Design Questions

We have used both wire cable and Spectra cord in our elevators, with dual reels so it is powered both in and out. We have found the Spectra cord to be superior in that it allows small radius (1/4")...

Smile Re: Attaching Tread on Vex Traction Wheels

When we use traction material on our wheels, we use "Shoe Goop" as the adhesive we sand the mating surfaces and clean with alcohol to remove oil and dust. We make up sheet metal clamps out of soft...

Smile Re: VexPro sprocket wear

With no lubrication, and aluminum in contact with steel, wear would be expected. Most teams concerned about weight use aluminum, and will easily last a competition season. How did the other sprockets...

Smile Re: Shaft slop help?

Cold-finished steel probably would have a better size tolerance. Your "wobble" is compounded not only by bearings, but the fit in the wheel hub. Vex aluminum shafting has a really good fit, and we...

Smile Re: Can the vex ball shifter be powered by a single cim?

You might want to consider using two mini CIMs, (if they are available in your design) as they will load the input gear equally and give you 1/3 more power then a single large CIM. Check your gear...

Smile Re: Does 54" include bumpers?

Definitely a question for the GDC. There is ambiguity in R05 where one paragraph refers to weight and volume, and the next only weight with reference to bumper excusion.
