Re: Remarks of Hon. Michael F. Doyle

Rep. Doyle has been a friend to robots for quite some time... the lobby at the National Robotics Engineering Center features a photo of him operating the Ultrastrip robot close to a decade ago. It's...

Hexbug Bridge Battle

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4270676

I'm kind of surprised at the lack of publicity for IFI's newest product... there's no mention of it anywhere on hexbug.com, and I certainly...

Re: 2010 Pittsburgh Regional

Was anybody else recording video of the event? I'm really itching to see qualification match 31 one more time, but unfortunately nothing from Friday afternoon got archived on Ustream.

I can't imagine why you keep reviving this thread when the answer has been the same every time.

Re: 2010 Pittsburgh Regional

That's exactly right... the video couldn't be clearer. The head referee's explanation of what happened was perhaps not as articulate as it could have been, but the call was correct, and she deserves...

Re: Clowns or Announcers?

I am far beyond high school, and I am indeed impressed by such theatrics. I know that my students enjoy it too. I've seen more than a few very reserved kids come out of their shells in response to...

Re: Placing the socer ball on it's spot

As seen here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/23747), this "feature" was also present in the poof balls from 2006. My students didn't buy the explanation that dark colors are heavier. :p

Re: Team update 16

The bottom of the robot is not the same as the top, in terms of <R19>.

Below the bumper zone, that is actually the rule. <R19> spells this all out.

Re: FedEx problems

I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of the big stuff comes from places that actually have loading docks. My understanding is that the added complexity for FRC comes from the increased demand...

Re: Withholding limits and GP

So if a team brings a 64lb. robot without its wireless gaming adapter (thus missing the communication aspect that defines a ROBOT), they would be legal? It seems like it's easy enough for these teams...

Re: Question about things that MUST be on the robot w/o compressor

I'm inclined to disagree.

That rule seems to indicate that the switch is required on-board, but the Spike is not.

Blue boxes are not rules, but this makes me wonder if the intent is indeed to leave...

Re: Fasteners extending outside the FRAME PERIMETER

C'mon, man... you can't possibly tell me that "common sense" would have dictated that a bolt head protruding from your frame 15" off the ground is legal, but a bolt head protruding by the same amount...

Re: [YMTC]: [YMTC]: Did the Blueateam touch the tunnel?

Can you point to where that was the stated intent? Or are you just assuming?

In any case, if you can't see it, I don't think you can call it. For comparison, in hockey, a goal can't be ruled as such...

Re: Legal Camera Pan/Tilt Mounts?

Sam, that was true in previous years, but now the rules are a little looser. If a drawing is available that satisfies <R34-B>, it would still be legal to use.

Re: FRC 2010 Team Update #5

Being in front of an opponent's tower has always been legal, and that strategy doesn't become more effective by e-stopping. As far as I can tell, all this outlaws is making contact with the tower...

Re: FRC 2010 Team Update #5

Aha, that's kind of cute. Thanks for explaining. Nonetheless, I still see a lot of problems here:

I'm not convinced that this needed to be fixed. It's not the cleanest tactic, but it's clever and...

Re: FRC 2010 Team Update #5

Can you elaborate? I'm having trouble envisioning any strategic benefit to e-stopping your robot that couldn't be achieved through the control system.

That aside, I'm pretty strongly opposed to the...
