phone use after a disaster

I just wanted to remind everyone not to use the phone after a major disaster unless you actually need help. We had a small, but still sizable earthquake in the San Jose, CA area last night. ...

Re: MCC18 Installer Script

I don't know what your procedure was, but I didn't have any problems on Fedora. I just copied C:\MCC18 from a windows installation. WINE was already installed and the compiler it just worked. I'm...

Re: PIC bsf instruction

I figured it out.

By default, pins that can be used as analog channels are set to analog. If you want to use them as digital, you have to set them using the ANSEL and ANSELH registers. This needs...

PIC bsf instruction

After spending the last 3 hours trying to figure out what's going on, I think I need to verify my conclusion because it seems strange to me.

If I set the output of more than one pin, they like to...

Re: microcontroller picking up noise?

I figured it out! (mostly...)

It was indeed a ground problem. None of the outlets in the house are grounded. I know that because I personally replaced all of the old 2 prong outlets with GFCI...

Re: microcontroller picking up noise?

I emailed the power company, but I haven't gotten a response yet (not that I'm really expecting one). I looked at their power quality info and, from what I can tell, this kind of noise isn't their...

Re: microcontroller picking up noise?

If it's running only on the battery, it's fine. However, when I connect the scope (even only the ground), it starts acting up. I just tried a different board (smaller and without a metal back...

Re: microcontroller picking up noise?

I hope nobody minds that I revive my own thread.

I've been working on the problem on and off since my last report. To sum it up, I've found nothing. I've gone through the house and tried...

rangefinding/object detection

I'm working on a project that requires rangefinding. I was wondering what people's experiences have been with ultrasonics and IR range finders.

The problem is that I need to be able to detect a...

Re: data bus

I wasn't as concerned about how much data, but rather how fast I can get the data I want. (say encoders that need to be read at a known time) After thinking about it more, it's probably...

Re: data bus

That's sort of the problem I've run into. The I/Os are so heavily filtered that I don't think I'll be able to get a reasonable data rate. I think this problem is a project killer.

data bus

Has anyone looking into trying to implement an external data bus for the RC? I've been thinking about it, but I've come up against some big limitations.

The first is that the digital I/Os are...

Re: IFI Loader Reloaded

The response from my team wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I pretty much just stopped working on it.

Re: LMD18201

I was playing with this about a year and a half ago. I made a speed controller based on an L298 and 12F683 (one of the 8 pin PICs). The PIC is essentially being used as an RC PWM to traditional PWM...

Re: PWM translates to movement?

I'm not sure I competely understand your question.

The transistor will only heat up when there is current through it (just like anything else). P=IV; no current, not heat. In a MOSFET, all current...

Re: HomeMade Motor Controllers

I'm sure that power MOSFETs do have some differences in construction, but that diode is in all MOSFETs; it's part of the way they're built. This diode is called a parasitic because it exists, but...

Re: problem with speed controller

What's shutting off? Is the motor just stopping or is the light on the speed controller turning off. If the motor is just stopping, make sure that everything is mechanically alright and that your...

Re: making a spherical mirror

If I remember correctly, having a ray come in parallel reflects it toward the focal point. Having a ray come in through the focal point makes it reflect parallel. The sun is sufficiently far away...

Re: making a spherical mirror

Re: Program State red blinking

1351's usual procedure for unknown blinking light problems:
1. Cycle power. Eliminates some hardware problems.
2. If that doesn't fix it, load default code. Eliminates problems with your code.
3....
