Re: Water Jet Reccommendations

Rick, I would strongly suggest looking at a CNC router instead of a waterjet. Waterjets are pretty messy to run and overall just not very pleasant.

We have one of these and cut almost everything on...

Re: CNC Plasma Cutter Recommendations?

Neither.

A CNC router is a better machine for FRC than both of those. Since getting our CAMaster Stinger II SR-44, our 5'X10' CNC plasma cutter has laid dormant. The plasma cutter suffers from much...

Re: Highest ranked team not picked?

Not sure why you think scouting isn't as big of a deal at Championship as at the lower levels. All of the top teams (ie teams playing in elims) are very much intensely scouting. You don't end up on...

Re: Is CAD essential to all teams?

Hey there. We are in the metro area as well although not quite neighbors. Our robot is entirely designed in CAD before machining. Almost nothing on the robot was fabricated without a CAD design as...

Re: PCH District: State Championship Predictions

All sorts of confusion in this statement.

State Champs will be interesting. More depth should change gameplay substantially particularly in elims.

Re: Aiming lamps

As one of the teams who was called out for our flashlight this past weekend I think I can speak on this matter some. We have a flashlight with an aspherical lens that allows focusing the beam tight...

Re: CNC Mill/Router?

We run an SR-44 with just about every upgrade except vacuum table from this company and love it.

You will notice it is much beefier construction than many...

Great design. Do you happen to have any pictures of it?

Re: PCH District: Albany & Dalton Predictions

We were browning out every match due to the carpet. We practice on competition spec carpet over hardwoods and run the tires at 12psi on that surface. At Columbus, we bumped the pressure up to 35psi...

Re: PCH District: Albany & Dalton Predictions

What diameter wheels and types of wheels are you guys running? Have you run any numbers on tooth strength or tension in the chain on such small sprockets? This game is particularly brutal compared to...

I tend to think the opposite. Our testing agrees as well.

Re: Stress testing a Rhino

I think the reason we don't see more tank tread drivetrains is the lack of performance advantage compared to well-designed conventional wheeled drivetrains, while at the same time introducing...

Re: What is the best center drop distance for an 8WD?

Something else to consider is the spacing of the wheels horizontally. Most teams do not run the spacing equal between all the wheels.

Re: Nerf Co-op and Litter

This game is very reminiscent of that year that we shall never repeat... It could be changed, but will it?

Re: Nerf Co-op and Litter

Seems crazy to me that a robotics competition would be set up in such a way that the contribution from the human player would be so close to that of the robot.

Re: Belt Drive Design Problem

Due to belt tolerances, the only way to get perfect c-c distances would be to lay out and measure the actual belt and pullies. This solves it for that particular belt but what happens when you have...

Re: 2-Speed vs 1-Speed drivetrain

Everyone should try datalogging acceleration if they have encoders on their drivetrain, particularly with 2 speed transmissions. Depending on the ratios, there really is no difference in...

Re: Buyers' remorse / Pig in a poke

What is inherently wrong with competition and even saying you want to defeat the other teams? This seems to be a common theme around the FIRST community, and frankly seems misguided. FIRST, just...
