Re: [FTC]: Scoring points for the opposing alliance

I wanted to thank those that voted.

The reason I started the poll is my daughter is helping with scouting/strategy across 6 teams at the middle school. At least 3 of these teams are going to the...

Re: [FTC]: Beacon problems

I have a theory on this....

When you use a 9V battery, there isn't a ground path in the beacon. When you use a 9V supply, you introduce a ground path in the beacon. The fields themselves do not...

Re: Biggest upsets of 2016

I think the other odd thing to note about that match was 2470 went into the elimination rounds as the 4th replacement available. The reason they were out there was because there had already been...

Re: [FTC]: Scoring points for the opposing alliance

This is unrelated to the thread but Nick, I wanted to say from the stands it looked like you did a great job as field manager.

Re: [FTC]: Scoring points for the opposing alliance

I was not in the discussion (for the record, I am not associated with any of teams involved - we were there as spectators). My assumption is the alliance partner did not agree with the plan and were...

Re: [FTC]: Scoring points for the opposing alliance

They were trying to increase their own rank points. They were ahead by more than 40 points after autonomous so the outcome of the match was not really in question.

[FTC]: Scoring points for the opposing alliance

This came up at a state qualifier event.

A team that was already qualified for the state tournament was changing beacons to their opposing alliance color in order to increase their rank points...

Re: [FTC]: NorCal Advancement

Based on what have you said and looking at the website, it sounds like a team with a check mark will eventually get into state. It seems like by marking them as a lottery team instead of as a...

Re: [FTC]: NorCal Advancement

I am missing something - aren't there more lottery picks than teams in the lottery?

I count 17 lottery picks of 14 teams in the lottery. (I count 11 host teams)

Re: Utilizing breaks between matches.

Think about how much time and energy teams put into scouting. You just suggested the people running the tournament do at least that much work to supply a snippet of talk between matches. Teams at...

Re: Utilizing breaks between matches.

In fairness, a lot of people were filling time between matches on Einstein doing aeronautical experiments.

At the 10k regional they filled the time between matches with the exciting game of seeing...

Re: No MN Events?

It may be worth noting that the 11/12 Eagan and 11/19 Eden Prairie tournaments will be coinciding with FTC tournaments. The 11/19 Prior Lake will be coinciding with an off season FRC event.

Re: Best looking robot ever?

Back in 2002 my dad, my brother, and I volunteered to do a demo combat robot at the MN State Fair. My brother gets the idea of motorizing a full sized refrigerator and driving it around. ...

Re: 2016 Minnesota Robotics Invitational

It was also really nice to see that Isaac had recovered enough to attend. My wife was sorority sisters with Isaac's mom so our family has been keeping him in our thoughts.

Re: [FRC BLOG] The Great Registration System Crash of 2016

So is there a pool on the reason?

If there is I want: "A team set up automatic registration routine to make sure they got their first choice and that routine went nuts bringing down the server."

Re: Driving an FRC robot. Any job like it?

In fairness if you really want a job like driving an FRC robot, you can always try to invent it rather than project what will exist in 8+ years.

Re: Most Unlikely Places You've Found FRC People

Last June we were on vacation in Turks and Caicos. My daughter had her team backpack sitting by her at the pool. A Girl from team 4472 and her mother stopped by to talk robotics for awhile.

Re: [FIRST EMAIL] Stop Build Day Survey

This is kind of minor point but I haven't seen anyone make it.

Re: [FIRST EMAIL] Stop Build Day Survey

I have seen a lot people say in this thread that eliminating SBD would eliminate the building of two robots. While mentoring FTC I saw a number of teams build 2 or 3 different robots over the...

Re: Best Robots Not To Qualify For Champs

I am inclined to agree with you.

3276, 3277, 4778 wouldn't have been out of place at champs either.
