Re: The Best Team(s) to Never Win an Official Event

Gonna plug in 456 here. They're a phenomenal team. They have some of the best volunteers and are always willing to help someone out. We have competed with them several times over the last few years....

Re: Who makes their own wheels?

We applied the Loctite after the hubs had failed. That was the controversial issue in that thread.

Re: Who makes their own wheels?

They were pneumatic. There was a thread about it. I didn't mention the brand/model because I didn't want to bring up the whole discussion again since it was a little controversial.

Re: Who makes their own wheels?

I'm going to chime in here because I've watched this blow up without any explanation on why we are building wheels other than the intent to teach students the process of manufacturing.

This year we...

Re: Team 2895 IOS app

I'd recommend making the advertisement less "in your face". It takes up a good portion of the screen.

Some alternatives:

Smaller footprint

Incorporate a news cell into an advertisement, so that...

Re: New FRC Youtube show concept

If you want to do this look at Linus Tech Tips or MKBHD for guidance. They usually have really great review videos condensed down to get the most important features and hidden quirks about a device...

Re: Custom Drive Stations

This is not a good idea. The power outlets on the field only allow current of up to 3 amps before it trips its internal breaker. Powering a computer of that size AND a monitor will definitely pull...

Re: Robowranglers 2016 Season Recap

Amazing video guys - sent chills down my spine.

Our run on Hopper/Einstein will be something I, and our team, will never forget. Thanks for helping us make our year awesome.

Re: Craziest Stronghold Matches

While I agree that the Hopper/Carver 330 flip was the craziest, I've gotta go with the homer pick and say our match on Hopper with 148 and 1678 where we scored 270 was pretty awesome (24 high goals!)...

Re: One or Two Drivers??

We have always used two drivers. In our opinion, it is easier to have one person, the driver, operating the movement of the robot; while the other, the operator, operates all mechanisms. This spreads...

Re: Quitting FRC for Vex?

I can see Vex being a good way to start feeder programs for FRC, but in no way do I see Vex replacing FRC. The amount of engineering that goes into FRC completely overshadows any reason to switch to...

Re: Running Toolchains on Debian?

If you want to upload and compile code on Debian through the command line, you can create an Eclipse project and then edit code through your favorite text editor. When you want to deploy, go to the...

Re: Running Toolchains on Debian?

You could also get some cheap Thinkpads on eBay (x100e and X200 come to mind) that run Debian great and will be good enough for a coding station/driver station laptop.

Re: A(nother) Sad Day For FIRST

Honestly nobody should take this to heart until 233 has an official statement on the matter. 233 is an awesome team and I don't see any reason why they would so suddenly retire.

Re: Drive Train Controls

^

Split-Joystick arcade is much better than 1 joystick arcade. It is much harder to drive straight on 1 joystick. From there it's just personal preference.

Re: Drive Train Controls

Well, in my experience, we've always gotten the most control out of using tank drive, as you can individually steer each side of the drivetrain.

Though, there are other options, such as:

Arcade...

Re: FRC971 Spartan Robotics 2016 Release Video

I've been using VIM and bash on my Mac. I like using it, but I usually go between that and making sure that Eclipse likes what I'm writing. Thanks for that bit, I'm looking forward to the full code...

Re: FRC971 Spartan Robotics 2016 Release Video

Is there a resource showing how you guys manage your code and how you deploy it to the robot? Also what editor do you use? I've been trying to learn how to code our robot in Java/C++ and don't like...
