Re: Biggest upsets of 2016

Thanks for the shoutout! Also, we were part of the Curie upsets, but our win was not a significant upset itself.

Re: Most underrated/undervalued tools

Vice grips. They can hold together parts while machining, clamp to a small part so you don't have to be close to the machine, stop vibrations on some parts while milling, hold some sketchy prototype...

Re: Team 254 Presents: Dropshot Technical Binder 2016

I was going to do my homework, and then I saw this, well... 254 won over. Best reading I have done in ages. ::rtm::

Re: Take our robot survey, win stuff!

Out of curiosity, how many people took the survey?

Re: Take our robot survey, win stuff!

Great survey! I like to give my feedback on events. Also, it sure would be nice to have a mechanical keyboard to replace my old entry dell keyboard for my rig.

Re: What do you do with a robot at the end of the season?

We keep the recent robots we like (2010, 2014) for quite a bit of time, and sometimes convert them to a practice robot for a season (We used our 2010 robot to help our drivers train this year while...

Re: How is your team structured?

We have officer positions, which are President, who handles outreach and build season happenings, and is the "face of the team". The build team manager (or vice president) is the main director during...

Re: What's the gender demographic of your team leadership?

Our team has not many girls (less than ten on a 55 person team), but this year they held treasurer, PR, outreach, and admin. Our president and build team manager (Vice President) were both guys.

Re: How does your CAD team work?

We have one person, usually the most skilled in CAD, handle the final assembly of the robot, and making complicated parts. Everyone else makes the CAD for their respective subteam (Drivetrain,...

Re: Best low goal robot

Yeah, 836 was incredible, mainly due to the speed at which they went around the field. The effectiveness of a low goal bot is 80% the speed and skill of a driver. A statistic I find incredible is...

Re: Best low goal robot

Curie had a whole lot of great low goal shooters. 3546, 5406, 1511, 25, just to name a few.

Re: What Percent of Teams Use CAD?

We use Inventor, 90% of our parts are made from a CAD drawing. Also, we use our CAD to direct our CNC mill. CAD is also used mainly on our team to find places where electronics, motors, and...

Re: what was the best shooting mechanism for 2016?

Also 148, the robot with the highest opr at champs, had the highest opr. Catapults are good.

Re: what was the best shooting mechanism for 2016?

330 had a good linear punch mechanism (A piston hit the ball), but I feel it had to be a bit to close to the goal. I think that 3360 had a shooter that could shoot from farther away, and the batter,...

Re: what was the best shooting mechanism for 2016?

Both wheeled shooters and catapults were equal I feel, but the best wheeled shooter was the turret-style from 254, 179, and 5172. The best catapult was between 148 and 118. (Texans know catapults, I...

Best Up-And-Coming Teams

I created this thread to see which teams people think will be powerhouses/already are, and are relatively new. The criteria is that their first competition must be in 2013 or later. Here is my list...

Re: Your favorite robot of all time?

My favorite robot of all time is 254's 2014 robot. It is not extremely complicated, in fact many teams could have made their robot, but the strategy they used was so unique and so elegant that it is...

I have heard a lot of ideas for a rolling log defense, and I really like the concept, but I feel one rolling log would be impossible to get over. I think that a better design for the defense would...

Re: Post-Championships Performance Analysis and Awards

So proud our team got on this list! We had an incredible match, and were with other great low goal shooters as well. Go Red!
