Re: Preparing for the Town Hall Meeting on the New Championships Format

I'm not sure why they should fear anyone. The goals of FIRST and it's major sponsors are aligned. Why would the sponsors care how many championship events there are? They put $$$ into the program...

Re: (Lack of) Value in the Regional Model

This reminds me of one of my favorite Mark Twain quotes:
"Don't let schooling interfere with your education."

Re: G10, The Dallas Disable & Crickets Chirping in Manchester

As mentioned previously, the 60 second guideline is just that. A guideline, NOT a rule. I hope that it is being treated as such at all events.

The rule is this:
G10 DRIVE TEAMS may not cause...

Re: Early Match Schedule Posting

We generate a practice schedule at the FiM districts so when we run practice we have log data for the matches, in case we or HQ need to look at something. Practice will most likely still be open, but...

Re: Is this considered damaged?

An annual reminder:

Judges wear blue shirts and give you awards

Referees wear zebra stripes and give you fouls/cards.

Re: 2015 Recycle Rush Scoring

How about some "extra credit" coopetition?

I'll dump all my litter on my side if you dump all your litter on your side. Extra 4pts per litter for everybody!

(I'm thinking we may need team colored...

Re: FIRST please fix....

I was the scorekeeper at MSC and was an FTA for 3 FiM districts this year. I don't have the answers but I can clear up/confirm some things.

As some have mentioned, yes, you have to finish the match...

Re: Record Number of Replays in Elims?

Usually the crew visits one of the district events to get a feel for where they will lay out their equipment. I'm assuming they did this again this year. It's not something that will be left to...

Re: 2013 Where is Wolcott Invitational

"MSC style" video was created by FRC 2337, The Enginerds.

It's a GoPro mounted on a painter's pole which is supported by an outdoor umbrella stand. Usually it sits behind the scorer's table. It's...

Re: The District System

The first year of MSC was run as a traditional regional. FIRST truck, Showready, etc... It followed the traditional regional schedule. So we had practice matches all day Thursday. Teams only got 9-10...

Re: The 6 Week Build Season and 'Mentor Burnout'

Just a few thoughts after reading the latest posts on here.

* The top/uber teams will work from kickoff until championship regardless of any rules limitations. Even with no withholding, they will...

Re: The Stereotyping of Successful Teams

I have had the same thoughts about this for a while. If you take out the need for teams to build a practice robot it saves a ton of resources and tightens up the competiton.

"Six Weeks" is a fallacy...

Re: FRC Blogged - Share your FIRST Story, and *Preliminary* Championship Match Schedu

Last year the cycle times between matches was *fast*. They could fit in more matches.

This year it is slower due to counting discs and belaying robots.

Re: What's the verdict of on-robot cameras?

FYI, the latest generation of GoPro cameras (Hero3) has WiFi built in. It can be disabled (and must be on an FRC robot, obviously).

Re: 2013 Regional Chairman's Winners

Don't forget about Michigan. The teams winning at MSC will likely be heavy hitters with multiple wins as well.

Re: Understanding FiM State Qualification

Case in point: There were three teams that were a 2nd pick for a winning alliance at a district last year (2012) that did not qualify for states.

Michigan requires all teams to supply 2 volunteers...

Re: FiM off-seasen Events

862 will be there.

There is a website on the FiM webpage for the event. But no team list yet: http://www.firstinmichigan.org/FRC_2012/TARDEC_FRC/tardec_frc.html

I know they typically invite the...
