Re: 1986 Pop-up Camera

We've been wondering when we might start to see these pop up.

Re: 3824's rapid fire feature

What kind of controller are you using to get the drivetrain to the exact shooting position?

Re: If YOU were the GDC...

While many teams shots might not be blockable, those tall opaque robots might happen to block many teams vision tracking systems. Most of the systems are mounted down low, so maybe courtyard...

Re: Top 5 Teams In Your State/Area before CHAMPS

I wish we could be inconsistent enough to seed 1st in two regional events and be the first selection in the other one. Oh and then go on to win all three events.

Re: pinning being called consistently?

There is nothing in the rules that says the pin has to start as soon as the robot gets close enough to block it either. The rule says: For example, a
ROBOT parked right behind an opponent that is on...

Re: pinning being called consistently?

I'm finding that at some regional events it is being called too quickly. I'm just not sure that a robot that is not trying to leave the batter because they are trying to shoot should also get a...

Re: pinning being called consistently?

Great to hear it from the source, and yeah hindsight makes it easy to see. I guess what I'm wondering is how refs at different events were told to call pinning? Maybe you can provide some insight...

Re: pinning being called consistently?

Do you really consider 1540 to be blocked on the batter?

This is the excerpt from the game manual that you may be referring to

There is no FIRST Robotics Competition specific definition of pin, so...

pinning being called consistently?

After watching numerous events I've noticed that pinning doesn't seem to be called consistently. One thing I've noticed is that at some regional events pinning seems to be called even when robots...

Re: [FUN] Karthik Joins Recap w/FRC Top 25 Tuesday 8:30PM EST!

Sure they didn't! (https://youtu.be/ZosKC92rI7A?t=2m9s)

Maybe you saw them shoot up close when no one was playing defense on them, but under defense they seem quite capable of backing up into the...

Re: [FUN] Karthik Joins Recap w/FRC Top 25 Tuesday 8:30PM EST!

There aren't many right moments when robots are shooting from the outerworks!

Re: [FUN] Karthik Joins Recap w/FRC Top 25 Tuesday 8:30PM EST!

I'm sure that 2771 is pretty happy that teams tried to disrupt their alliance by the application of force at just the right moment. The 25 foul points they gained earned them just enough points...

Re: paper: Scouting Database from Team 2834

In the past I believe their was a Max OPR column that could be used to help sort teams by their best performance. It looks like this would be a useful tool as some teams make big improvements from...

Re: A video guide to playing shutdown defense in Stronghold

I guess depending on the size of your robot and the robot you push you might not have to enter the outerworks yourself to push someone into them, but even if just your bumpers cross the plane of the...

Re: A video guide to playing shutdown defense in Stronghold

There would be some penalties for pushing them into the moat, I'm not sure how it would be called, but it is illegal for them to make contact with you while in the outerworks, but you may get called...

Re: A video guide to playing shutdown defense in Stronghold

Our biggest concern was trying to defend against both you and 4522 since you shot from different positions. Unfortunately we didn't get that opportunity since 4522 had issues in both matches. Not...

Nice, I'd hope that with enough successful defensive robots that maybe teams will start to see this as a viable strategy.

Re: A video guide to playing shutdown defense in Stronghold

Some people are stubborn, and just think they can somehow just outdrive their way to victory.

Even if you can shoot over the 4.5 foot tall opaque blocker (still legal) many teams will still have to...

Re: A video guide to playing shutdown defense in Stronghold

We asked because this was called twice, and the penalty was overturned because the side official was confused about a rule. In short there was no foul there.

Re: A video guide to playing shutdown defense in Stronghold

If my robot couldn't shoot from the outerworks then I would be very worried about even an average defensive robot. Dropping off boulder's in the courtyard is not going to make it easier to score...
