Re: frustrated FRC mentor needs advice

MaryJ,

If physical organization is an issue, maybe try doing a 5S on one section. For instance, my former team really needed it on the electronics for several years. The mentor who controlled the...

Re: Buying Aluminum Stock

I would avoid 6063 for anything structural, especially in 1/16 thickness. It is 1/2-2/3 the strength of identical 6061 (tensile vs ultimate yield). 6061 is widely available from places like...

Re: LAS VEGAS REGIONAL... terminated?

Coming in late to this discussion...

If you move the event to a district-sized venue, you need to have a district-sized attendance. The description one poster gave of a 3-court gym with a practice...

Re: Record-Breaking Match at 2014 Bridgewater-Raritan MAR District

Yes, it was the first time ever. There have never been more than 2 Delaware FRC teams prior to this year.

Of course, I tried to get John Larock (of 365) to use his pull with MAR and FIRST to get it...

Re: Bridgewater MAR District Match Videos

I would like to know why the time limits weren't enforced throughout the Finals. Teams were bringing robots onto the field well after time had expired throughout the Finals.

What was going on?

Re: Rookie Awards Ethics Question

Ah, but FIRST can only provide that based on the information the team provides. I personally know of a situation where a team above 4900 has received a Rookie Grant and should be excluded from...

Re: Reversible Bumper Update

Can you post the question number?

As for 3 layers versus 2, it's starting to look like they are saying add-on covers are ok (2 layers), but reversible are not (3 layers).

Re: Rookie Awards Ethics Question

I was actually a little surprised when I found this out, but I guess it makes a kind of sense.

So ...

We have agreement that (E) is Rookie. I'd have been surprised otherwise.
We have an example...

Rookie Awards Ethics Question

OK. With the week 1 competitions about 1 week away, I wanted to ask the CD community-at-large for their opinion on something that has been bothering me. Please note that I know what the FRC rules...

Re: Team 11 - Robot Reveal 2014

I actually had to go back and check. I had thought it was skull-shaped.

Re: Most common inspection related violations

I'd have to say, the wheels are not explicitly required to be shielded (are they?). That said, we shielded our wheels.

Re: Bumper Number Question

The numbers are white 4" high with a 1/2" stroke width. Seems to meet the criteria. However, some inspector could make the claim that the number is 4" high, but the white is only 3.75" high because...

Re: 2014 FRC's Biggest Loser

Our current weighing method is to take two students, weigh them on a pair of bathroom scales, then weigh them while they are both holding the robot. Subtract out the student weights and you get the...

Re: 2014 FRC's Biggest Loser

On paper, with the battery, 6 lbs of bumpers, and without bolts or wires (we're not going to model them), we're at 102 lbs. Our method was lightweight parts, thin Lexan, and perforated PVC panels. ...

I guess the question in reply is: Why? Are you stalling out a mill? If so, what make, model, and motor size is involved, as well as the specifics of the cut? There is noting that I can think of...

Re: Rule R18?

Ummm ... Is that actually correct? I thought it was the moment they are different from what you can buy off the shelf.

For instance, we may get 1/8" aluminum plate from our vendor in 4'x8' sheets...

Re: pic: Swiss Cheese Weight Loss

We have used rivets in the past. While they are easy and all that, if you do them incorrectly or overload them, they'll fail you. We might get back to rivets in the future, but it's been 5 years...

Re: In Case Paralyzing Snowstorm

To be honest, when our school is closed, we don't meet at the school (school rules). We have met at a mentor's house in the past when we've needed to get things done while school is closed.

If...

Re: How are teams passing to other teams?

Hrm. We've got push, dump, fire, catch, fast-stop-without-seat-belt, and the infamous levitate. :)
