This is definitely a robot to watch out for in Davis. This team is very motivated. Good luck guys, it was a lot of fun working with you over the last few weeks.

Re: How do you control the length a piston will extention/retraction?

<R88> states that there is no limit to the number of soleniod valves as long as they are off the shelf. We used center off valves a few years ago. They are also alot easier than multiple soleniods.

Re: NEED HELP WITH uncontrollable pneumatics

If you are trying to control the length of a cylinder you want a "center off or center closed" solenoid. Instead of the spool inside moving and staying in position to supply air to port A or port B,...

Source for large pitch plastic gears

Looking for 10 or 12 pitch Nylon or Acetal gears. I have checked SDP and McMaster. Anyone know of anyone else I could try? I am looking for something off the shelf, not something custom.

Thanks.

Re: **FIRST EMAIL**/Practice Match Poll

Someone should move this to the general forum with a poll for just the 3 options with no modifications or changes to them. That way more people can see this and comment on it.

Re: **FIRST EMAIL**/Practice Match Poll

Option 3 seems to the the fairest solution. Every team has the same number of minimum matches and if they want more they can wait in line for it.

Re: Getting to the 2008 Honolulu Regionals doesn't require breaking the bank

Where were you able to find $119 - $149 each way to HNL? The best I can find leaving the West coast is $200-$250 each way from LAX. Leaving the 27th and coming back on the 30th.

Re: Designing Anodized Parts

If you talk to an anodizing company they can usually control the buildup +/- .0004. You just have the bearing bores machined oversize by the amount that the anodize will build up and you are good to...

Re: Machining plastics with CNC

When machining plastics try hooking up an air nozzle to the machine and point it at the cutter. That will help with the heat buildup on the cutter. You might also have to stop and let the tool cool...

Re: ramp tractions

You can buy paint with grit in it. It’s used to paint onto concrete steps and other smooth surfaces. You can get it at Grainger, and maybe Home Depot/Lowes. As far as tape for numbers I think that...

Re: Removing the stock pulley from the 3" CIM

That is exactly why we use the nut splitter. Takes 30 sec and there is little to no risk of damage to the motor/shaft. Its well worth the $5-10 for the tool.

Not sure if you have checked these guys out yet. www.kerkmotion.com They supplied the one we have in the kit. Check section 8 (I think) of the manual for detailed info on the lead screw part #.

Re: Team 192, Robot Lifting Teaser

Are you using some kind of winch (sounds like it might be the FP w/ gearbox) to pull that center leg? Looks like a very simple and efficient design.
