Surprisingly, from the math, just one servo could handle the regolith with a safety factor of two. Unfortunately, the carpeting required us to move to three.

Since all six wheels are powered though, the chain runs would be a lot simpler if you put the pivot on the same center line of your center wheel. This would keep your chain length...

One option you have not considered is a hydraulic drive. I am not to familiar with them, but you will be getting speed control, forward/reveres, and its likely that you could direct drive right off...
