Re: pic: Compressor Fan Mount

I could see the reasoning why that wouldn't be kosher.

You are removing the three screws that hold the head onto the cylinder. If you don't re tighten the screws enough (secure them to a likely...

Re: Finding the thred size of a 3/4in. bore Bimba piston

Yeah, it seems a bit big, 0.61" might be referring to either the threads on either cylinder endcap for affixing it?

Re: Finding the thred size of a 3/4in. bore Bimba piston

Solidworks should have a threaded hole feature built in, where you can select the thread type (if it is actually .61 it may be a 5/8" bolt at .625)

You just need to measure the major diameter...

Re: 2015 Beta Testing - The Components are Here.

Given both the pneumatic module and the power distribution board are connected to the RoboRIO via CAN, there is a possibility that these devices are monitoring the current to prevent fuse blowouts...

Re: T-Shirt Launcher-Scuba Tank

I just want to further emphasize being very careful around the tank. An 80 cubic foot (10.2 liter) tank at 3000psi has an extreme amount of energy (online figures suggest about as much as a half...

Re: Rescued TEAM Flags Left at Championship

This is definitely Neutrino's flag. I will send this thread to our lead mentor and hopefully he will get in contact with you.

EDIT: Also sent you and our mentor a collective message on...

Re: VEXPro 2014: After The Season

Yeah, I was gonna suggest they make one out of 4340 or tool steel, something that is easy to harden heavily. Makes me think of the plates we were making to hold back the gas shocks last year, I think...

Re: VEXPro 2014: After The Season

Neutrino remade the shaft in mild steel as well as in stainless (I think 300 series). Both still had significant wear from the balls.

We are thinking of making a hardened tool steel shaft for off...

Re: # of team that used selectable mecanum or traction wheels at 2014 champs

I know Talon Robotics (2502) used that system this year. It is typically referred to as Octocanum. I suspect a handful of other teams may have used it as well.

3928 used Butterfly (omni and traction...

Our driver was vomiting this morning. He also went to the baseball game last night and had some stadium food. He had a nose bleed as well so that may have been related (if it drained down his...

This is a tremendous understatement. It was incredibly difficult to predict the outcomes of elimination matches. I often thought one team was going to emerge victorious, only to have the other team...

Re: Omni Wheels Vs. Mecanum Wheels

To elaborate on butterfly drive as Team Neutrino has used it in the past two years:

Is this drive train each corner has a small traction wheel and a larger omni or traction wheel. By using pneumatic...

Congrats to 2177, 3042, and 4778 for their victory. Eliminations were very intense, well fought by all teams.

Is it just me or have there been a lot of connection issues at this regional? I've seen a lot of robots stopping suddenly in the middle of matches and coming back a time later.

I'm not sure if this...

Out of curiosity, on what basis or with what information are you concluding that Pneuaire tanks have more additives / are made more ductile than the Clippers tanks?

Is it the lack of reports on...

Elongation at failure would be the most accurate measurement of ductile failure.

Energy absorbed in impact testing would also show evidence of ductile vs brittle failure.

Finally, any evidence of...

Re: exploding plastic storage tanks

I would tend to agree that the Pneuaire tanks were used more extensively by experienced teams which extensively researched alternative lighter options to the conventional metal tanks.

If I had to...

Re: exploding plastic storage tanks

While Pneuaire and AndyMark look eerily similar, Pneuaire does not sell a 36 cubic inch tank on their website.

Additionally, somehow the Andymark tank is physically larger (Diameter 2.7" vs ~2.5"...

Re: exploding plastic storage tanks

Just doing some rudimentary comparisons with CES EduPack (materials database).

The old tanks were also made of polypropylene: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112396

As are Pneuaire air tanks.

Likely a PSA of some sort would be needed, or harsher restrictions in order to prevent future problems. Unfortunately, these tanks are probably perfectly adequate in the other environments where they...

Re: exploding plastic storage tanks

I would definitely second the mention of being careful with your mounting. Any harsh mounting (hose clamps) that deforms the tank or otherwise marks it is changing the mechanics of the system rather...
