Re: Seeking advice for rookie programming

Disclaimer/Background: I'm a software engineer with 30+ years experience programming in C and C++, but I know a fair amount of Java as well. I have been working with our FRC team doing C++ code...

Re: For the Woodie Flowers Fan in All of Us...

Thank you! I think this will help everyone be able to bid on the items knowing that they can arrange to get the items shipped or picked up later. I think this will also greatly increase the...

Re: For the Woodie Flowers Fan in All of Us...

I second that question. Maybe at least for small items that could be shipped? I would be happy to pay shipping and packaging cost.

Re: Team Structure and Build Schedule

I most definitely agree with both of these comments. Although you will definitely have to do some installation and updating of your programming tools after kickoff and that should be completed in...

Re: Crown Jewel of your Collection

The best items are those from our students, whether they are lessons learned or actual items received they are the reminders of why we do this.

My personal crown jewel is a model of our 2016 robot...

Re: pic: Team230 Damaged Frame Rail

After the rest of a long season... and off-season events... and community events, I can report that the replaced tubing has held up great.

Re: FRC Team Bullying

Agreed. Also no one has mentioned that this is also very much against the FIRST YPP policies. Although that does not magically make the problem go away, this means that you, your other team...

Re: Inspirational teams

Thank you. It is an honor for our team to be mentioned in this category.

My personal inspiration is Team 1519. They are absolutely the nicest, most down-to-earth and genuine group of people... and...

Re: POLL: Friday-Sunday events vs Thursday-Saturday events

+1.

I always plan to take the next day off from work if it is a Monday because I'm too old for this. My body needs a day of rest. So I either take a vacation day on Thursday/Friday (with District...

Re: Driver Station Laptop

We also had very secure velcro on our driverstation and it never fell off on the field... but in the queuing area at Champs it was very crowded and our driverstation hit the concrete hard. It...

Re: Driver Station Laptop

I strongly disagree with this statement. It is definitely preferable to have the programming separate from the driverstation. The single most important reason is that I have seen many...

Re: How many days do your programmers get with a fully built robot before stop build

Our goal is always to have the robot functioning about a week before Bag Day, but... this rarely happens. In the last few years the software group has gotten the robot anywhere from 1 to 4 days...

I know I speak for everyone at the event when I say that I am so glad that you came out. It would not be the same without you. Team 230 always looks forward to your commentary and in particular the...

Re: Organizing your programming

Yes! I have been there before too... especially when the cRIO was first brought in. That was a big paradigm change for FRC... and then again but to a much lesser degree with the roboRIO...

Re: Organizing your programming

First, I'm always there... just ask our programmers. :yikes:
Also because of our development methodology there is somewhat less interaction between the coding being done by individual programmers...

Re: CT State Championship 2016

So true...

The mentors are exhausted...

And the students have lots of homework to catch up on... and AP tests, etc.

Re: Organizing your programming

I personally am not a fan of Git either. We have been using SVN for 8 years and it works great. We originally had a local respository, but last year we decided to store the repository online using...

Re: When programming doesn't get enough time

Perfect! This is exactly true. :D

This would be perfectly doable if you would just build a robot capable of exactly what the programmers wrote the code for. ;) :yikes: LOL

Re: 1986 2-Ball Autonomous
