Re: Where Are You Volunteering?

I'm volunteering for the FRC Hawai'i Regional, as well as volunteering with the Hawai'i Regional Planning Committee. So if I can get dragged in, I probably will for any events on O'ahu including the...

Re: No notification of early shipment?

I'm not sure if this is just Hawai'i, but some of the teams here that have recieved delivery of the control system did NOT get early warning from Fed Ex on delivery. It just showed up.

Re: College Admissions Question

Visit the schools, as was suggested earlier, is one of the best things you can do when looking at Universities. When you visit the schools, if there is a specific engineering counselor or tour, make...

Re: Cost of 2nd Control System

The cost for the Drivers Station was not released at the NI training session held this Saturday. They did tell all of us that the cost would be available sometime within the next couple of weeks. ...

Re: Seeking Mentors/Advisors

May I make the suggestion that you also might want to contact any regional robotics committees and see if they can provide any assistance. In addition to this, contact the technical societies in...

Re: Barriers to Entry: Why schools DON'T join FIRST

Another barrier that I haven't noticed mentioned is for the teams coming from either a) different countries or b) whom are not part of the 48 continental states, transportation costs can bring the...

A Couple of Notes.....

A suggestion I would make as an alternative to posting the preference here would be to post something visible in your pit area if you have a very strong preference on photography of your robot, or of...

Thank you to the volunteers and staff

I would like to send a thank you out to all the volunteers at PNW that I worked with. Without all of you, we wouldn't be able to hold a FIRST event, nor would it be so memorable. I'm grateful for...

Re: "Random" match Schedules

I pointed out something earlier, and I would like to reiterate it before we get too much further in this thread. Please do not assume just because we do not have a fix for the scheduling in the...

Re: "Random" match Schedules

I have a couple of questions for the people posting in this thread.
1) Why does Dave Lavery have to post to this thread? Is there an actual rational reason?
2) Honestly, do you not believe that FIRST...

Re: Girls,Why did you join FIRST???

I joined FIRST because quite honestly, it seemed like it would be fun, it would allow me to have something that I would be interested in after school, and it was a wonderful opportunity. This is a...

Re: pic: A letter from U.S.FIRST to suppliers, before the initial year

Dan, I wouldn't say that the letter actually solves the argument. Instead, I would say that the letter illustrates the founding mission of the program, "to shatter negative images that many...

Re: Ball speed testing after matches

This is true enough, and it was obvious in some cases. But when the speed was close it was difficult to tell if they were a smidge over or not. And yes, in a lot of cases it was possible to tell...

Re: Rules that are [not] getting called at Regionals, the +s and -s

This rule also seems somewhat to deal with preventing the scoring system from getting screwed up. Bumpers counted as part of the robot when they went into the goal at Portland, because they could...

Re: Rules that are [not] getting called at Regionals, the +s and -s

Unfortunately, that was what was defined to the referees at the event itself. However, looking back at the rules and the manual I could not find an actual POINT amount for deduction into the goal. ...

Re: Ball speed testing after matches

It is. Its almost impossible to enforce, or it seemed like it at points. That might just be me though. How can one accurately tell from eyeballing if something is relatively close to 12m/s. Sure,...

Re: Rules that are [not] getting called at Regionals, the +s and -s

The rule on corner incursions deals both with unintentional and intentional incursions into the corner goals. I did notice that at the PNW regional, most times when a corner goal incursion occured,...
