Pre Season Hardware Ordering
We're getting ready to start our first build season in a few months, so as the Mechanical Director, I'm devising a list of hardware/stock that we should order before the season starts. Anyone got...

1. Each channel is a department, so you have one channel for CAD, another channel for programming, etc. For more general discussions, we have channels for those as well.

I'm a SolidWorks user, but a class I'm taking requires Autodesk Inventor, so I'm installing that on my computer. First thing I notice is that the program requires 25 GB. I'm not sure if SolidWorks...

Re: Are You A CAD Specialist?
After being on drive team for two years without much involvement in STEM-related work, I decided to go into CAD, learning via Google Hangouts and following step-by-step in how to assemble certain...

Re: How did you scale?
I recall talking to 254 about potential climber designs at SVR. They did talk about using two gas springs, which would be retracted and held like that using pancake cylinders. When the pistons were...

Re: Modding AM14U3 for WCP DS Gearboxes
If the game requires heavy defense, then shifting could be an advantage. Also note that this team is built from people like me who already have experience in FRC, so I guess in some way, we aren't...

Modding AM14U3 for WCP DS Gearboxes
Recently became part of a newly-formed FRC team, and I'm wondering if it is practical to mod the AM14U3 to be able to mount WCP DS gearboxes. I've looked over the CAD of the chassis, and it appears...

Re: Mcmasters Brake and Clutch Lining
The arm gearbox I designed for 649 utilized a piston-actuated piston brake. The material used as the friction material was urethane as opposed to the materials in the link you provided. From what I...

Re: pic: Inverted Gearbox Concept
With every design like this, the first stage will be exposed. Of course, people should be careful about this, but perhaps a case can be made to go over the first stage. I can kind of imagine that...

Re: Using PTO Hub in Transmission Gearboxes
A gear that rests on a shaft above the gearbox I'm thinking of would not be able to fit in the space between the DOG gears (can't really go outside of it because the CIM pinions wouldn't be able to...

Using PTO Hub in Transmission Gearboxes
Last night I was designing a gearbox, but I couldn't get the ratios correctly with the current dog gears available. At one point, I did manage to find a good ratio, but it turned out later that parts...

Re: pic: 2x1 gearbox
So probably using 1/8" stock would be better. If the spacing inside is too little to fit anything in, then perhaps using 2x1.5 (I think this exists on McMaster) stock or something higher would be...

Re: Vex Shift Rod through 3/8 Hex Shaft?
If there's a lot of clearance, wouldn't you make the hole smaller?
Oh... I guess that gearbox I made had a traditional brake after all. Silly me.
I've seen a lot of disc brakes in...

Re: Vex Shift Rod through 3/8 Hex Shaft?
The gearboxes I designed for 649's shooter arm this year had a brake component, which utilized an AM shifter block with the rod and a custom part which acted as the dog. It was basically a plate that...

Re: Vex Shift Rod through 3/8 Hex Shaft?
Should have made that clear. I'm referring to the dog shifter rods, and in my newest CAD project the usage of 32dp gears from WCP and the 20dp 14t gear from VexPro requires the use of 3/8" hex....

Vex Shift Rod through 3/8 Hex Shaft?
In CAD, the shifting rod has a diameter of 0.187 inches. So I'm wondering if custom shifting shafts can be made out of 3/8" hex shaft... or is that way too small to be considered safe?
