Re: Old Man Notices A Thing: Lots of Robot Names

We on 1519 have always named our robots, usually shortly before our first event, when the robot is mostly completed, once the robot's character has evidenced itself.

Well, except for 2007, when we...

Re: [FRC Blog] FIRST Choice 2017

Coming up with a workable flag solution (the flag had to be at a specific, quite-tall height) was one of our challenges in 2008 for Speed Racer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR1ChpV1pio) as we...

Re: Registration 2017

This year, "few options" is actually zero "options" (if option implies a choice) for NE District teams who won't compete on Sundays.

The only way for such teams to attend two NE District Events is...

Re: Sponsor can we morally seek sponsorship from a brewery

One other item to note is that some states have laws / regulations governing companies such as alcohol-producing companies, tobacco companies, etc., in terms of restrictions as to advertising...

Re: Registration 2017

Well, so now we see how the "New and Improved" registration system is working out. TIMS registration had gone pretty well for the last few years.

Wonder if this is a harbinger of things to come...

Re: Things to do with a dead Stronghold robot

The above referenced match is one of my personal favorite matches from NECMP.

It is described in our posting for video of your team's best match...

Re: Top 5 Teams In Your State/Area before CHAMPS

The interesting thing this year is that there are a lot of "top-tier" robots that have slightly different qualities, meaning that the "best" robots can vary a fair bit depending upon what features...

Re: [NE FIRST] District Championship

Thanks for updating the Welcome Packet.

We'll plan to keep our extra needed stuff somewhere other than in the trailer!

Re: Talon SR vs Talon SRX vs New Victor vs Spark

For PWM control, we were very happy with the Talon SR in 2014 and used them exclusively. We planned to use them in 2015 again, but then the new control system came out and we opted to upgrade to the...

Re: [NE FIRST] District Championship

First off, I want to mention that it is AWESOME that the NECMP planners have arranged for secured trailer parking. Given the frequency of trailer theft from FRC events, it's fantastic that the event...

Re: navX Issues

Are any of the LEDs on the navX lighting up at all? If none of the LEDs light up at all, even at initial power-on, then the navX is not getting power. The most likely cause of this is swarf in the...

Re: 2016 Official NE FIRST Event Match Videos

EmileH, thanks so much for posting about the public availability of these videos!

Do you know if videos from the North Shore Event (Reading, MA) will be coming, or are those ones unavailable?

Re: paper: Game Manual Test for FIRST Stronghold

Thanks so much for having shared this Game Manual Test -- we on 1519 will be making use of it to make sure our drive team, scouts, and pit crew know the relevant rules!

Re: 3D printable radio case

Sounds like a great solution. We wanted to do that, but didn't, because we (apparently mistakenly) presumed that the 12V from the VRM wouldn't successfully power the device in the "18-24v POE" port...

Re: Palmetto Regional Week 0.5

Agreed! Just watched the 179 reveal video and loved the wheeled shooter including a turret. We considered doing that this year but didn't think we could do that and still get under the low bar. ...

Are there problems with using the *correct* static IP for the roboRIO (10.te.am.2) or are the problems only when using a non-standard static IP?

We used mDNS dynamic IPs for all of the beta testing...

Cabling between Talon SRX and VersaPlanetary Integrated Encoder

We're huge fans of using an encoder on nearly every motor on the robot. Last year, we used the TalonSRX with an encoder wired directly to the TalonSRX for all our PID control loops (velocity control...
